This reminds me of the game Fallout Tactics. You could find a gun called Chauchat, which is a french light machine gun from the first world war, you can equip it but you can’t fire it. The weapon description tells us how it’s the worst gun ever made.
Realism is the word…
Please don’t start this katana hype. I hate katanas with passion. They are soooo bad weapons…
I dont really see any place for katanas in this game, and I hope they’re not gonna be in.
Please… just… no!
Katana? Really? Are you high?
Ok. I hope we all realize that The Highlander was just a movie, right? Please no Katanas. Just don’t.
If our blacksmith find a katana he must find an AK47 as well
I know its early for karabela, but i would like to use szabla, shashka or kilij.
@Trademark AFAIK Hungarians and Ottomans have improved the composite bow. Before the decline of bow they achive a design resistant to almost all kinds of weather conditions they may encounter. And don’t forget prods of crossbows too composite.
Katana - no. Recurve bow - yes.
Katana?
as long as we can get a ninja companion with some nunchaku and throwing stars.
european armor were too tough for katanas literally no chance to break through a chainmail so plate armor ? HA !
Hmm, Katana is big two handed sabre made for different combat style than europe had in 1403, please don’t mix this two worlds in vein of Deadliest Warriors!
KCD aims to be historically accurate/realistic. Whilst there was contact between the central European world and the extra-European world, to fit this in the game without it looking out of place would require far too much added context/explanation.
I think a Katana is not historically possible at that time. But a (curved) Damascus (Wootz) sword should be very possible. The Europeans knew these weapons since the first crusades. Although many Saracen fought with regular straight swords not made of Damascus (crucible) steel there were some of these swords produced for wealthy aristocrats and noblemen. It is quite possible that some of these weapons were also exported to the HRE or robbed/preserved during the crusades. Even the Vikings likely imported crucible steel from the orient to make the famous Ulfberht sword…
I remember the nomads (Hungarians/Cumanian?) on the game trailer, but with longbow.

If it were about a hundred years later, we would see Kriegsmessers.
In that vein, I’d like to see the smaller one-handed sorts of messers. That would be nice.
Would be cool to find some old guy, could for example teach you how to make them, if you get to know each other more, or train you to use them. And people would be like “what kind of bow is that Whooa”
I don’t understand why people are still posting in this thread. There is no way a katana will be in the game outside of mods, and recurve bows definitely have a good chance in the game. Can a mod please please please lock this thread

Please do not forget this game is based on realistic things! You are in Czech lands, so you would probably found vz. 58 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vz._58
