This is my opinion on the matter.

whoa brutal. but i guess he kind of deserved it. katanasā€¦sigh

No. Just no. Seeing alot of suggestions on this forum that I hope the developers are smart enough to avoidā€¦

ā€œButā€¦ muh katanaā€ No.

Hungarians still had/made recurves at the time

Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that. I should know what Iā€™m talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (thatā€™s about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana. Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind. Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. Iā€™m pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash. Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? Thatā€™s right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected. So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen.

Hahahaha  Good thing youā€™re sarcastic, someone with such askewed perception of history would not donate as much money on a historically accurate game as you did to receive that Pope badge.

This is bait. Troll harder asshat.

Ignore and report this people. Anything he has said is not true and is bait.

Katanas will most likely not be in the game since some people said, it isnā€™t historically correct.

There are problems with composite bows though. Maybe the technology improved over time, but one thing that turned out to be a problem for Huns and their conquest was the more humid environment in Europeā€¦in which their composite bows started breaking apart. I think the same happened with Mongols. This issue contributed to the fact that these steppe wariors never managed to actually conquer (much of) Europe.

I canā€™t tell if youā€™re being sarcastic.

Ever wonder why feudal Japan never bothered conquering Europe? Thatā€™s right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Knights and their Oakeshott types X through XXII of destruction. Even in World War II, Japanese soldiers targeted the men with the mamelukes first because their killing power was feared and respected.

Or heā€™s just referencing an old joke: http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Katanas_are_Underpowered_in_d20

Wasnā€™t aware that this was a ā€œold jokeā€. Should have expected people to react the way they did. Itā€™s a little of-topic too I think. But sure. Iā€™ll join the circle-jerk of bashing the katana.

They would had those problems in central-east Europe but they dinā€™t and actually won many battles. Anyway, they never got close to the place where game takes part and their bows were never used here. Anyway, I think that crossbows were favored over bow in Bohemia that time.

it was. During the hussite wars a written source tell us that crossbows made up 75% of all handheld ranged weapons used by the Hussite And the the 25% was firearmsā€¦

Please donā€™t. I canā€™t stress enough how wrong this is. Iā€™m even going to cry as soon as I see a katana mod on the internet later.

Yā€™know, this is a good idea. Lets bring in a katana!

And lets it make it the absolutely rarest thing in the entire gameā€¦ then have it turn out its utterly useless. Your character has no idea how to handle the weapon, its unable to pierce any armour, and itā€™ll break shortly after as you try use it against people wielding actual sensible weapons for the setting.

Really, thatā€™d be golden. Pick up on this idea, Warhorse.

As long as it can cut through a thin leather armor at least, Iā€™m okay with this. The idea was to make it a fancy collector item (not the ultimate weapon of choice), anyway.

I honestly donā€™t really see the need for ā€œcollector itemā€ weapons. To me thatā€™s a thing weā€™ve become so used to having as a pre-order bonus (for example) that we come to take them for granted as just being part of a game.

By ā€˜collector itemā€™ I meant something that is potentially available to everyone playing the game, but is actually quite difficult to obtain, hidden in fortress far away and well guarded. Something that has ā€˜accomplishmentā€™ written all over it (not literally, of course), not ā€˜thanks to my credit cardā€™. We have many nice ā€˜pre-orderā€™ bonuses already (most of them are IRL items, though).

Good idea. I personally think katanas are SOOO overrated in the video game community though.

Historically European nobles take Middle-eastern Damascus-steel ā€˜wootzā€™ weapons as fancy collector items, as to show their reach, wealth, connections and taste after the crusades, much as Arab rulers have German ā€˜Running Wolfā€™ crucible steel, an act of mutual admiration from two cultures with martial tradition. Thereā€™s a reason the mameluke scimitar was adopted by everyone from Napoleon to British army to U.S marines, no matter how much Japanophiles wish other wise.
