I have played through the game once now, reached lvl 25 or so - so here is a short feedback on late game content.
- Money: it becomes a redundant factor
- Qusts: most quests feature monetary rewards so they too become redundant
- Combat: stops being a challenge alltogether
- Character development: stats are hard-capped at 20, kinda makes the ‘Brute’ aso. perks redundant (actually you are still taking the drawback so they become a malus)
- Gear: Once you are equipped well there’s really nothing more to shoot for. Generally you can aquire the ‘best’ items way too early.
Conclusion:
KC:D’s late game is really nothing to write home about. The story falls off steadily after the monastery mission (which is amazing btw). It really feels rushed to the end.
I was massively dissapointed by the lack of difficult end game encounters especially in the story. No Bossfight, no tough nut knights no Markward von Aulitz? Runt and the wayfearing knight are literally the only noteworthy duels in the game. brigands in plate armor are the toughest enemies thrown at you. Good thing you’re generally attacked by 5 or more since individually they are so weak.
This entails that the combat system (which I find very enjoyable) is just no longer present. every enemy dies after 1-3 hits, combos, feints, perfect parrys are all unnessecary. the ‘big battles’ in the story are just as easy.
I am confident that these problems can be fixed by raising the combat skills of enemies. additionally some extra hp/armor can’t hurt.
edit: without any noteworthy lategame encounters the entire leveling process feels unwarranted, after all - why level, gear up, prepare if there is just no serious obstacle to overcome?
