So I had an idea for a large scale battle mechanic. Because a massive open battle could probably crash most systems and make that section hard to play, they could introduce a “Tactical Table” so Henry could take command in a form of real time strategy mini game. So it could start with Henry raising troops around the area and sending conscription notes to villages that could have a positive or negative outcome for the village based on the notes and delivery. But when Henry has raised enough men, he could approach the war tent and plan a strategy and command the troops from afar. Depending on the troops he raises and how many troop types he raises changes the advantages of the battle. When Henry has assured victory in battle, he can join the fray and send the enemy into retreat.
