So I backed on kick starter but I really want this on my Xbox one. What can I do to switch that over if anything at all?
They are currently developing this to PC. When the PC version is finished the game will be ported to consoles. That’s what I’ve heard. Also proofread before you post something
Myy question is not about if they are making it for the Xbox I am asking if I can do something so that they don’t give me the pc game because I don’t want to buy the game twice
Not now and probably not in the future
Before release they are going to ask you what version of the game do you want. You don’t need to do anything now.
Actually they’re developing it for every platform which they’ve announced so there will be no porting. All versions will be running on all platforms natively.
And yes, it is as Freix said, they still haven’t asked backers which platform they prefer so when the time comes, they will probably send you an e-mail or something, where you will be able to choose which platform you want the game on. But it will be probably at the end of the development, so it’s still plenty of time.
it’s being developed natively on the pc. console versions will then be “ports”
Well, it depends on what “port” exactly means. By this measure you can flag nearly every game, which is not on PC, to be port from PC, because they use PC for its development, but for me port is when the game is developed for PC in mind and then recreated for consoles or whatever, which KC-D actually isn’t. They are developing it with PC and consoles in mind.
the defnition of port is fairly simple. any game developed for consoles first, then ported to pc is a port. same is true vice versa.
Ok, so KC-D will still not be ported to consoles, because it is simultaneously developed for pc as well as for consoles.I don’t know where you get this nonsense that the game will be ported to consoles.
it’s not being simultaneously developed. the pc version was in development since at least a year ago. they just received the console dev kit a few months ago. they estimate the console port to be released after the pc release(imo a good thing, i don’t want to wait for console version to be completed before i can play the pc version).
Oh, it seems like you know nothing about game development, sry. Ok, so they started their development with next-gen consoles and PC in mind. Even though they didn’t know any tech-spec of next-gen by that time, it really didn’t matter in this early stage of development. Especially when they licensed CryEngine which is kind of ready for next-gen. It also isn’t true that their development of console versions started when they got that dev kits. It only means, that they can test the game on it and thus tweak it. And sorry for destroying your last myth, but when the game is finished, they will probably release it on all possible platforms, which means PC and consoles as well. But yes, partly you’re right, you will be able to play alpha and beta only on PC, but because other platforms have no possibility to run an early access.
The only delay, as they said, could be caused by approval from the Sony and Microsoft side. But that doesn’t mean that the game will not be ready for those platforms in the same time as the PC version.
it’s being developed on pc, then ported over to the consoles. they’re not going to waste time developing it simultaneously, that just means they have to fix issues 2 or 3 times when they can just fix it once. this is actually one of the benefits of next-gen consoles. don’t have to simplify or make the game compatible for vastly inferior processors like ps3 or xbox360.
things like console handheld controls can be developed from start because some people want to use that on the pc as well.
To make it simple: since Warhorse uses the Cryengine which supports PC, PS4 and Xbox One the whole porting issue won’t be that big endeavour. I think the final game will be released on all three platforms simultanously. IIRC Microsoft’s terms of use even require that you have to bring the game to Xbox at least at the same day as on other platforms. I’m not sure about it though and maybe there is a new policy already in place.
Alpha and beta will be most likely PC-(Steam-)only, that’s already known. There is no indication that the final game won’t be on consoles on the same day as the PC version. And from a business point of view that wouldn’t make much sense either. You certainly don’t want to experience the customer backlash with a non-simultanous release for no apparent reason…
Thank you @LordCrash.
And here is also my final statement in the form of quote from Wikipedia. Especially the last sentence is very important regarding the development of KC-D:
Porting is also the term used when a video game designed to run on
one platform, be it an arcade, video game console, or personal
computer, is converted to run on a different platform. Earlier video
game “ports” were often not true ports, but rather reworked versions
of the games. However, more and more video games are now being
developed using software that can output code for one or more
consoles as well as for a PC without the need for actual porting.
Not to tribble your gibblets, but all games are developed on PC. It’s the target system libraries and API that differ.
Unless we imagine they can program games on the actual consoles?
Yes, that’s what I’ve actually mentioned several replies before. By that logic you can say that Mario Kart is port from PC and indeed it is, but in general when you use word “port” for a game, you usually mean that it was created for one platform, and then, mostly because of the success, the developers port it to another platform. For example Witcher 2, which was originally PC only, but then they proted it to Xbox 360. That’s the port for me, not the game, which is developed with all possible platforms in mind since the beginning. And unfortunately when you flag something as a port, people usually imagine it as something not as good as the original, because it was originally designed for other platform. That’s why I don’t want to use the word port in this context even though it is technically correct, because KC-D is designed and will be tweaked for all platforms.
You sure bro, the screenshots I see is Xbox controls xy lb rb and so forth.
people use gampads on pc for some reason.
