Killed traders don't drop their wares or wealth

Maybe I’m just blind but I have never found a way to loot a killed trader’s inventory and find the wares he had to sell in there. He also never carries as much money as you see in the trade menu. For example, I wanted to buy some herbs from gertrude but I bought a 2k Groschen recipe on accident, so I’m thinking fuck it.
So I kill the old woman and loot her but lo and behold, all these recipes she can sell me aren’t in her inventory. Neither are the potions and herbs. And the 2k Groschen I just gave her aren’t there either. I even searched her hut and looked at her locked chest but there’s nothing there either.

Is this by design, is it a bug or am I just dumb and there is some way to find this stuff?

Yes.

Did you find any… KEYS on these dead bodies? Perhaps CHEST keys? Let’s use our deductive reasoning to imagine where their wares might be? It’s a head scratcher.

Their selling “inventory” is usually in a locked chest, I believe

Did you even read my post? No there was no key on the herb lady and her house has one chest which doesn’t contain her inventory.

Traders, but no I didn’t bother reading the whole thing. As for the inventory of some herbalists, it was definitely in the one chest they had. I also remember seeing a video where someone would wait 24hrs for it to respawn. They didn’t kill them.

If it’s not in the chest, then it’s not there.
