I heard from the pretty good gaming youtube channel that it doesnā€™t, but still eveb if it does. Itā€™s a big number.

nopeā€¦1 mil sold does not mean they get 60 mil. Only a portion of that goes to them - Steam gets a cut, MS, SONY, shops, tax and the list goes on.

ā€œtotal budgetā€ for the entire projectā€¦if anything it may not account for the kick starter since technically that was just to gauge interest and get the investor to actually start the project.

its not a big number though, really.

Average salary in the capital of Czech republic is about 19771.2 USD. Average SW Developer salary is - 22 967 USD per year. I don`t think they earn 65000 per year  would be great for them

But its not a kickstarter project anymore and shouldnā€™t be treated on that standard.

Maybe, but it also isnā€™t nearly as expensive as games that it, in my opinion, holds up to quite well. ā€¦no even half as expensive as some of those games. This game has issues, yea, and they will be resolved and when they are this game will be even better then it already is.

Yup, at least it makes a point that single player games are still in great demand eveb if it is a new ip.

It would be really interested in alternative reality when i would how many copies they could sell without bugs and real realism and deeper dialog at release date and proper community communication, i would said that much, much moreā€¦
Now they have broken game stigma and there already some Dan Vavras character stigma, i agree with him about black guys and about gamers gate, but it doesnt means his character had not other issuesā€¦

my czech is far from perfect but today iā€™ve seen an interview with Vavra made few days ago where he says that Skyrim marketing and promotion budget was 36M which is more than what they have spent on whole game during the development. He also noted that despite the sales, they wonā€™t see all the money and a good part of it is reserved for future development costs.
found the whole interview if someone is interested

Its still lots of many, regardless.

BTW does someone see any advertising somewhere for game? I just saw some Youtube funny video, thats all.

The Forbes figure is arguably the most reliable we have. 36 mil is also in line with what Vavra said in the czech TV (that the cost was hundreds of millions czech crowns, $36 million is around CZK 750 000 000)

Skyrim budget was 85mil including marketing (minus 35~ said mils for marketing, 50mil for developing with 90 developers and 85 actors) . The difference is that KCD had no need for marketing since the hype trains were real and they got much bashing from reviewers that eventually this created more publicity. As to why Skyrim did a marketing investment, dunno. No point to compare it to Skyrim thoughā€¦ Completely 2 different products.

It might not be as low budget as originally thought, but it was still developed to the standards that were laid out on the Kickstarter. This game started out with no funding at all or the backing of a studio. That makes it technically independent. The fact that they went from essentially $0 to $5 million or $36 mil. is just a testament to how good the ideas the team originally had. It also means that there was no corporate meddling like in the case of EAā€™s games. There are no microtransactions or day 1 DLCs that are so common these days. So judge it on an indie standard and holy crap, itā€™s completely giant or you judge it on a typical AAA level, and they arenā€™t totally shafting their customers asking for more money for the super premium deluxe edition that has some stupid tie in costumes for another franchise like pretty much every other AAA game does these days.

The end product is amazing even if its buggy and unfinished. Its better it turned this way.

I (want to) love this game but I just ran into another game breaking bug. Really no-way-out kind of bug.
At this point, funding strategies seem rather irrelevant to me: in the end we have a product that is not fulfilling its major quality which is being able to complete the main quest.

And donā€™t get me wrong, I love the the idea of a game like this as well as the fact that a young studio has the courage to go different ways. But after all and putting aside all the emotional affection that this game has arisen, please letā€™s be honest with the state and technical quality that this game is in.

Something definitely went wrong on project management level. It was either human resources, time management or contract management with the publisher.

37 million is low budget by comparison with any other triple a title. something as ugly and buggy as skyrim cost 90 million, just to keep things in perspective. the fact that they did this with only 37 million is actually amazing.

the marketing is not figured into development budget. skyrim was developed with 85 million. the additional marketing campaign probably cost significantly less than that. and the comparison with syrim is useful because we see that an inferior product developed at twice the budget can still be universally hailed as triple a by the public while with no irony. itā€™s all politics. if warhorse devs had the ā€œcorrectā€ political leaning and the correct ā€œdiversityā€ in the game, it would be gotyay according to the likes of polygon

I never understand this is cheaper=it could be broken logicā€¦ Its like cheaper car with not working breaks are okā€¦ Ok only in Trumps all in gold hotels, have to working showerā€¦

Its all nonsenseā€¦ Especially in comparison of sales in Czech republic and in USA.
