Actually Tartar is correct, at least in this context. Tartar is the medieval latin import word of Tata, which is what the hordes of Genghis Khan called them selves. At the time, it was used as a generic term for all peoples from the eastern steppes. Tatar is a term that refers to a specific turkic ethnic group. I’m not that familiar with this specific time period, but it seems more than possible that the Tartars in the game are not Tatars, if that makes sense.

EDIT: regarding the calling an Irish person English thing It’s actually closer to calling someone from Wales Welsh, instead of Cymry. Tartar is an exonym used by western europeans in the medieval era as a blanket term for all steppe cultures.

Good work Dushin. I’m glad you liked my post. I have attached a Picture also showing long hoses - the forerunner to joined hoses. Long hoses (but not joined) would be used with e.g. a doublet. :smile:
I also like to add that often leather-soled hoses were used and thus no shoes.

Concerning your confusion for the head slots …
I think as the slots don’t necessarily only cover armor, let alone plate, there could be slots that would simply not be used for, say, the setup you described (with only cap and bascinet, ergo only two slots used). I guess we simply don’t really know how flexible the system will be in that regard.

I just want to say thank you for this amazing article. I knew about 10% of this information, even after a few years of doing medieval reenactment in my younger days. Great work!!

Great stuff, here.

It makes me REALLY wish to see a full-scale MMORPG built out of this (or maybe support for a NWN2-style Persistent World). The level of character customization alone would be amazing.

ESPECIALLY if the “Role” in “Role Playing Game” referred to your CHARACTER, not the Tank/DPS/Healer nonsense you see elsewhere.

I really rather hope the sword scabbards of everyone in the game incorporate a belt attachment, like you mentioned. It’s a bit of an immersion breaker in other games to see the sword just hovering there by the hip, or -even worse- off the back. This game offers a very high level of fidelity, so my hopes are high. :smiley:

Decided to update it with a little list of content and numbering the pieces of equipment. I plan on updating this when the Alpha test is released to us. Maybe I will finally learn whether or not we can change our underwear to be more historically accurate and if you can combine mail and gambeson into a single slot under metal armor.

Okay so another bump for what seems like a wave of newcomers to the forums. Tomorrow I will start to update this post and look at the stats of the gear and our character Henry. Sadly it seems hovering over the item wearing slots does not reveal their function yet.

Okay it seems rather weird that when you undress you will wear the standard linen kit, if you equip the linen armor you will virtually look the same. If the stats on the clothes are meant as wearing requirements than something odd is going on too, since Henry has 10 strength and all the clothes seem to require 11.

None of the clothes so far seem to impact visibility/stealth or repute. Their only effect seems to be to increase armor values on different parts of the body. The protection value of leather shoes is a fair bit higher than the linen clothing.

I believe that all these stats are just placeholders in the technical alpha. None of these mechanisms are implemented in this build, I suspect. So I don’t think these numbers indicate much as to what it will be like in the final game…

Yeah the sword seems to confirm this, it has an attack stat of 0 yet it will kill people.
