Let's talk about combat for the 100th time

The one thing that bothers me about combat is that every enemy, whether Cuman or not, will always have the same stance and form of attack with a certain weapon. Of course as you increase your skill with a weapon, Henry will be able to do different attack patterns and more (at least that’s what I think). But so might the NPC’s, in which case it makes combat a bit predictable. I would know how to deal with that certain enemy immediately. Like, “Oh, he has a sword and shield he’s gonna do this, here we go!” “Easy kill.” I want bandits to attack like savages, Knights to attack like skilled swordsman, Cumans to fight with their own style. But this is what I’ve seen so far from recent vids. I might just be talking nonsense here. I’ll find out eventually once I’ve played enough.

enemies will have different skill levels which affect their speed and stamina, i don’t know if it means they will have access to more specialized moves like henry, but i assume so. this way, peasant and bandits could have access to the simply attacks henry has in the beginning while knights will have access to murder strikes and more technical moves.

as it was a feudal society where knighthood and military prowess was valued, i think the common person was probably instructed on basic fighting, especially if they were to be conscripted to serve as militia. so maybe basic fighting stances were pretty widespread.

As far as i remember Viktor Bocan talked about it in one of his czech presentations. He said it is something he wants to pursue in the sequel game. I mean different combat animations for peasants, knights, mercenaries and so on. Right now all NPCs have the same set of animations, only some are faster based on their level.
It is understandable given the fact that even after four years of development of this one universal set of animations there is still a lot to be done.

Would be nice but let’s be realistic, for their first game that would mean at least 2 more full sets of animations for each fighting style for every weapon and on top of that you would need to make the animations of each different fighting style work together so fighters from different “schools” could fight each other believably.

My hopes is that they will do that for this game rather than the next one. It will take some time for sure.

Very unlikely considering the amount of work this would need

Why doubt it? Surely they will do the best they can, especially on other things that haven’t been implemented yet. Such as bears, dog companion and a few other things.

Because the game is already finished and they’ll firstly add the kickstarter stuff that you’ve mentioned(blacksmithing, dog companion etc). These could be added by dlc, maybe for free for the kickstarter backers.

If they’d make such a massive update on the combat system they’ll propably just implement it onto the next part instead of doing a lot of work in order to update the units they’ve already sold and having to redo the whole work again for the next game.

Understandable.
