I don’t have enough control to be able to lockpick. I’m playing console and for my whole life if it’s not a hard push to the very edge of the analog stick range I cannot keep it in place. My cursor is all over the place. I’m trying to get Sir Capon’s wine and there is an Easy door that is a complete wall for me. What do I do?
Unfortunately the only thing you can do is practice… try to find a very easy lock. It gets easier as you level and I think you actually gain XP even if you fail.
I’m not sure if there is an alternate way to complete this quest, but usually they don’t force you into any one way of doing something in this game.
IMO they someone how made the lockpicking, with a controller, even harder after they changed it.
Yeah it’s been difficult. I love the setting and this game has been great for me. But dexterity is not something I possess. It might be a health thing, but I’ve never been diagnosed with anything so I have no clue. I just really want to get this wine because I like Sir Capon and the quests with him are very enjoyable.
Oh well I just watched a video and if you take Sir Hans keys it gets you in through some doors. I had the wrong door the whole time but his keys are in the trunk by the bath if anyone wants to know. That’s good. I’m rubbish at lockpicking.
Good, glad you got past it. I started out completely terrible but now I’m picking very hard locks. This is with a mouse though. I sometimes use a controller to my PC and i used to not have trouble that way either until they changed it with the patch.
It’s certainly harder with a controller, I find it very easy with a mouse especially since the patch. The first levels are the hardest, once you’ve leveled up lock picking + some perks, the minigame becomes a lot more forgiving: I mean a lot. You can practice on the chest behind Rattay’s miller, read skill books, train with Lepschek (the miller) and use Hair O’ the Dog potion for the hardest locks.

That’s good to know. I could definitely use it being more forgiving. Got them shaky hands. And I don’t even have to be worked up for it to flare up. It just happens. Haha.
I suck at lockpicking too… but the more you fail at it, the easier it gets… Just figured out that some of the coolest clothes in the game are locked away in chests.
I was bad at lock picking too. However if you keep practicing it gets easier. Currently I can pick hard locks but not very hard locks.
If i want to pick a very hard lock I drink a padfoot potion. You could try that next time you’re stuck on a lock.
