Lockpicking in very hard is bug?

I’m with lvl 10 lockpicking but still cant open Very Hard things, It’s strange, the lockpick does not break, but tb does not open the treasure

Strange, I’ve been able to open very hard since lvl 5 lockpicking, mine is 6 now.

Is it every very hard chest?

I’ve had a similar issue. With lockpicking at 12 or 13 I rarely can attempt very hard chests, I get a prompt at the start that the lock is too difficult and if I try as soon as the minigame starts my pick breaks. There have been a few very hard doors that i’ve been able to unlock and i’d say the minigame difficulty was no different than for a hard lock especially after earning some of the level up perks. I’ve even tried reading lock picking books and using the millers to train in lockpicking and I still can’t touch those juicy very hard chests.

*edit going back I found I was only lvl 10-11 at that point at hadn’t reached the lvl 12 sweet spot. After lvl 12 lockpicking I could go after any very hard lock

I think you lucky if you can open a easy one, I just suck at them and avoid them like a plague. Which is slightly disappointing for me as I did want to do a rogue playthough but me and my controller just don’t see eye to eye with each other.

especially hard with a controller lol not sure how it is on pc. hope they change it annalog sticks just dont work well for this mechanic.

PC was still difficult through probably lvl 6 but getting the stable hands perk at lvl3 really makes it easier. You have a chance to just stop the attempt and let it reset if you’ve drifted out of the sweet spot too many times. Getting to lvl 3 is pretty easy in rattay after you talk to theresa’s uncle the miller and have him teach you to lockpick. he’ll give you some lockpicks if you don’t have any already and then take you to an easy chest to practice one. just farm your skill there through lvl 3 and see where that takes you (the chest will re-lock itself after you open it, just exit the inventory screen, close the box turn around walk like 5 step and turn back and it’s reset. I know using the controller has added difficulty but pc was pretty squirrely too until I start leveling it up.

I want to say i have the exact same issue: i have level 8 lockpick, and i even enhanced it using the +5 potion. Nevertheless, any attemp of oppening a very hard lock gives me the message “this lock is too hard” and produces an instant lock pick break. Oppening any other chests or doors besides “very difficult” ones is working fine and with no issues at all.

At Level 15 u should open every chest.
Raise ur skill with Training on Pesheks Chest in the beginning.
U can Train there alone and unlimited.

Oh thanks, i though it was a bug because i could open hard chests quite early, like level 5-6, and felt strange having to wait till more than 10-13 (with potion). Thanks for answering

On another thread, myself and a couple other people did some testing. It took until reaching lvl 12 in lockpicking before I could attempt every very hard chest/door (this was without using a potion to boost stats). I Can also confirm that at lvl 15 you can do everything lockpick related. However, @Callahan many other players (myself included) have found that the Peshek chest only works about 10 times before it stops resetting itself (this is for PC players). It could be a bug, but I almost thought it was a design plan so that to further increase your skill you had to go out there and start your thieving shenanigans. I was hoping pick pocketing would be the same but I’ve heard from other people that you can spam that as much as you like with Peshek and lvl up that way, I’d have to double check but you might even get stealth xp for that method.

Will try again at level 15. At level 13 with no potion or boost and it seems i can open some very hard chests (like the ones at Andrew’s Inn At the Glade in the basement) but still get the “this lock is to difficult” when trying to do the chest in Lady Stephanie’s room for the miller side quest.
