I agree on this. My guess is that the blacksmith or maybe a tinkerer could make locks, so therefore they probably know how they work too. And creating lockpicks should be an easy task for the blacksmith in that case. Then again, all locks are a bit different so some effort would have to be put in to get it open.
I do question how common locks where at this point in history.
(Locks is actually one âitemâ that I havnât had any lectures about so I really donât know)
I do know that houses in Hedeby (today northern Germany. then south end of Denmark) around the year 900 could have locks on the door.
But we are talking a simple system where a wood âbarâ can be moved into place with simple piece of bend metal.
So clearly more of a symbolic/legal âlockâ than an effective physical one.
(we know this, because a house with walls, and doors was excavated there years ago and the door had both the âkeyholeâ and the wood bar.)
Most thievery are done by breaking windows.
I hope we will have a possibility to climb to access a back window and sneak in it.
I agree too, elaborate Lockpick should be found on black market, not on the regular, but I guess to make a basic one, a needle and a special capacity should be ok.
I see no reason not to include lockpicking, they just have to make sure that you can find or buy enough lockpick in the game. If you played TES Skyrim you know that finding lockpicks or even buying them was a problem on itâs own, so we just have to avoid making that mistake here.
@Paawool @MrSokolov You know heâs a blacksmith? So he would be able to make lockpicks by his own, since he know how locks work because he make locks. As said previously in the thread.
I really donât think a common blacksmith knew how to make locks⊠That would be a âprotected craftâ that required you to be a member of the guild. Making it illegal for anyone else to make locks.
And Iam pretty sure you would only find one in a big cityâŠ
Absolutly correct, but if you are a high skilled tief, you should know how to break a window silently. Also, thieving needs preparation, so you can few days before, observe your target house to learn the inocupent routines in order to minimise the risk to get heard.
