Low camera position of player character

While walking over a meadow I had the feeling that the grass and flowers were way to close to my center of vision even though i looked straight ahead (see crosshair).

So I tried some other places like standing in front of a door.

In the second one you can see that the center of vision is just a little above the door handle. When looking up, the top of the door is quiet far away. Try for yourself standing in a door.

The fence doesn’t look so high in the first picture, but when standing right next to it I can barely look over it.
I have the feeling Henry just wears a GoPro at his chest
I think they need to raise the point of view (or character) a little like 20 cm?

Kind regards,
Kyle

Seems fine to me. Maybe posting an image where you compare height of npc with height of your drawn guy? Btw grass seems to be completely ok to me as it was more likely much higher on medieval not cutted field. Have you ever walked by unkept meadow? Sometimes grass higher than me and i have 190cm

Thanks, we are discussing right now about this in our office. There is a crowd of Warhorsians looking at this pictures right now and guessing if it is correct or not.

It’s correct. The cam is between Henry’s eyes. He is just small

Maybe you are right as we currently don’t have an object of a reference height. Grass height can be very different and even the fence can be higher than it appears (to me). But I first became aware of this, because of the door. Maybe people were smaller back then (Henry is maybe just 1,65 to 1,70m?), but I guess the doors would have been smaller also and not like 2,00 - 2,10m? Put yourself in a doorway and look up, then you will know what I mean.
Maybe the developers can just check, if the camera position is in the right place as it should be given by character size. How tall is Henry supposed to be btw? Maybe it has something to do with FOV or that the camera is not at eye-height?

People were smaller than today, afaik they usually had like 160-170 cm. Saw few uncovered graves, doors were smaller also one handed sword was much shorter.
I guess fence could be as high as adult man so I see no problem in that. Comparison of NPC next to the yellow drawn guy would be better imho.

I just wanted to make the devs aware of the possible issue that the camera may have not the right height, because no matter if people were smaller or not, the camera position in proportion to door size seems to low (at least for me).
As the devs took notice I am fine with whatever the outcome is. They have the tools to measure and will act as they think best.
I will try to provide you with an NPC comparison screen, when I am back home

dont want to rush on you, i can post it in the evening as well
This is however very good topic that can kill a lot of spare time at work

You can alter you FOV by using the console command CL_FOV, 60 is the standard setting I personally play at 75.

Do however keep in mind that using any console commands may alter your playing experience and should be taken into account when bug reporting.

I know. I usually also play with 70 (in the pictures it’s default 60 ), but when you use higher values the camera pans even further away. I guess this intensifies the feeling of being a midget even more.

Could you please describe where did you take these images of fence? I can’t find that place.
I took some pics at Talmberg, first two at Reeky’s daddy, other two at building next to bath house.
Reeky’s

Reeky’s standing right next to fence

next to Bath house with maiden

next to Bath house standing next to fence

And the last one, doors inside (the house next to bath house  )

So in the end, it looks fine to me. But it is possible that building where you took images of doors can have larger ones.

Edit: sorry, I didnt take pics at bath house, corrected…

That is a house in Merhojed.
Ludmila and her husband breed horses there.

Indeed, in your pictures it seems like everythings fine. In your last picture though I noticed that your viewing angle is raised a little bit. I just noodled around a little more and came to the same conclusion, it just seems to be the house doors (and also the ceilings are quiet high. But that might have something to do with the architecture back then?!

As you can see there is a lot of clearance above his head (this is at Merhojed mill). When I stand in a doorway there is only about 10 cm clearance left. So I expected something more like this. This is also at the mill somewhere outside. But again, different times, different architecture, possibly?
So I guess everythings fine

I must agree now that my last pic can have raised angle, yes… Oh dammit

Btw architecture back then was adapted to limited heating possibilities, so there were low ceilings, small doors and small windows, because those were places where could heat run from a house. There are some nice museums around whole Czech republic with contemporary examples.
Even on castles were smaller windows at first, but later they enlarged as people could afford more wood to burn and they developed better heat-spreading techniques.
If you have a look on bath house, there is smoke dispersed from roof. That is actually quiet common solution of heat-spreading of their times
Yeah sure, wooden house, roof made of straw and hot smoke with sparkles leaving house through that straw roof was actually very good and well tested solution to “How to loose home in three quick steps. DIY”

In one of the video updates they are talking about this issue. When they first made houses in realistic size, it became impossible for them to program the AI so that the people would not get stuck inside. It was simply too small. So they enlarged the houses that the AI can move around and that you don’t have a feeling you are in a nicer rat nest instead of a medieval house.

Thats what I also expected, that doors and ceilings would be smaller/lower to keep rooms warm.
So what do you think about my second last picture? As you can see there is a lot of clearance above the guys head.

Oh I see. If thats the issue, it makes sense. I don’t know about the door height though.

i made this scrn. I guess it says all
I didn’t try to perfectly align cursor, it’s more about height of that guy that standing right next to doors

btw did you go into windmill itself? There’s brilliant real-working machine that looks kinda realistic :open_mouth: amazing

Thats the same door where I took the photo
Yes, I saw that and was amazed. Great stuff what warhorse is doing here. I think I already put more hours in KCD than in SC. And thats alot :sunglasses:
