Lower difficulty setting

I’ve played for probably about 6-8 hours and its so hard i get its supposed to be realistic but i think there should be an option to tone it back a bit. I can’t even fight one person without them (no joke) blocking everything they block stabs, slash, they will even block a full chain of combos.
Also the lockpicking it leaves me completely befuddled.
Those are my only “Real” complaints beside you know bugs and all that. Anyway if anybody here can give me tips or something on combat that would be very appreciated

For now, don’t engage anyone in combat you’ll get slaughtered. Just run away until you get to decent level through training. It goes for all mechanics. Practice before you go and try the real thing. It’ll get easier

Have you trained with Bernard yet? You need to learn how to fight with a sword, how to block, how to develop better techniques and timing. If you just go out into the wild not knowing what you’re doing, trying to hack and slash, you’re going to lose.

As was said above, the game doesn’t tell you, that your character don’t know something and have missed some techniques and stuff. Like if you loosing too much you should to think about to go to train and etc. Sir Bernard - is ultimate machine, that teaches you to the point, when no one stands a chance even him. Wooden sword duel - 2 mins and he’s dead. :smirk:

Make sure you get that training from Bernard. There are some basic moves you don’t have access to right now. Even after that, until you get your speed up, the game will still be pretty difficult at first… but then it is going to be insanely easy.

Just keep going.

Others may have a different way, but for me, my best chance at winning fights (before the sudden jump to just being able to smack someone down) was just to keep moving away from the enemy to lead them towards me so I can get them to kind of walk into my attack. If you time it wrong though, you’ll pay, but starting out… this seemed to be the only way I could hit someone.

Good luck, and don’t give up. Maybe save somewhere where there’s enemies near by, and whether you win or die, you restart and keep doing that until you can get used to the rhythm of the game?

But again, just don’t quit.

Alright i figured it out just wait for them to attack and wait for the little green shield to come up then your parry it and you just unleash combos

Cool. I’m glad you got the rhythm and it’s working out for you now. Congrats.

Running away doesn’t work they will still be down you once you run out of stamina its done

Also, if you come across a war hammer or mace, hang on to it. they seem to be more effective against plate armor and kettle hats. Swords are good against more lightly armored enemies, but a hammer vs plate will make you happy… I think.

Yea guys, I’ve practised, and practised, and then practised some more, and I still suck, and sometimes even a freaking lonely UNARMORED bandit, with a crappy axe just smacks the crap out of my heavily armed and armored henry, blocks everything I throw at him, with their freaking crappy axe!;and please don’t tell me that I have to get higher stats, because my warfare is at 8 already and my sword is at 11; a peasant bandit, in a shirt, with and axe, shouldn’t be able to beat me… if there are players out there that suck so badly(like me) at timing and general playing skills, why not just add a difficulty setting? who would it bother? you could just tune up the difficulty; I don’t get it

Everything I’m about to type can be considered spoilers. So read at your own risk:

Pick herbs in the tutorial area, all of them. Every single one on the map. Then get Leg Day, to help train strength. Take advantage of the weapon master in the tutorial area for as long as the game will let you, as well.

When you finally get out of the prologue, speak to Peshesk about training you to use lockpicks (it’s not a necessary skill, but fun really, and can help you get access to better gear faster), you can literally lockpick his chest he trains you on for 3 levels. Pick up Lasting Pick first, then Deft Grip.

Go to Bernard, train with practice weapons. Do that for an hour or two a day, if you will. It helps immensely. You could also do that until you’re at level 5 in your main weapon style of choice and defenses, then go do the ‘Ruin’ quest line for Bernard. That should help your combat skills, and acquaint you with the combat system.

Don’t worry about doing the main quest right now. Just get up to the point where you can train with Bernard. Which means you gotta get through the Neuhof quest in the MQ (you’ll need this to be able to keep trainign with Bernard). After that, just do side quest and explore the map.

Maces are pretty OP against plate. Axes are the inbetween. And Swords are good on lightly armoured opponents. I like this guys video, simply because his voice is actually soothing to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jygS2JGtF0
Go from there. You’ll figure it out. Just keep it up, because this game is worth it.
