It would probably be interesting to see authentic mind altering recipes included
in medieval “alchemy” game mechanics.

Well, there was allways Claviceps purpurea and perhaps other hallucinogens. One of the fundamental building blocks of the human culture according to Carlo Ginzburg.
Amanita muscaria bro, Psychedelic indeed. Im unfamiliar with Bohemian Shamanism but they are already present and there is going to be an alchemy system implemented.
These are considered poisonous in modern Czech Republic :-D. I dont think they would pick these in medival times either. But I am not a historian, so I dont know.
The have a historical use in the nomadic tribes in Siberia, most references from European history Ive found are short and not descriptive beyond poisonous.

Do you know Ginzburg’s Storia notturna? He tries to connect Siberian shamanism to medieval witchcraft. Very interesting and cleverly written book.
I have not heard of it but Ill look into it.
Terrence Mckenna’s book Food Of The Gods has a compelling argument about psilocybin Mushrooms have had a huge impact of human evolution/spirituality. its a good read whichever way you swing on the argument.
I have read a really good book before forgot the name that traces shamanism from the paleolithic area to wiccanism.
Oh, no wicca please. Wicca just chooses what’s nice and COOL and IN and uses it in it’s new age collection of nonsense.
This McKenna could be perhaps even influenced by Ginzburg who gave lectures at Berkeley. They seem to postulate quite similar hypotheses eventhough apparently Ginzburg is rather more sophisticated. I should perhaps read McKenna’s book and compare it to Ginzburg. And I sincerely recommend http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecstasies_(Ginzburg_book) - Storia Notturna, one of the most interesting books I have ever read.
(Did you know Cinderella is a cultural heritage we share with China and in fact being a limping person = at the border of the Land of dead ancestors - Cinderella is perhaps a Shaman? In the chinese version (the oldest known) she even dress herself for the ball in a dress made by feathers of Kingfisher. It could symbolize the common shamanistic myth about the soul who metamorphoses into a bird and travel to the realm of the death. Almost every important hero of Greek and even Norse mythology is a limping person - heel of Achiles, prolonged leg of Theseus etc. An intersting tangled web is Carlo Ginzburg weaving.)
True Wicca is about nature and our Gaian mother, im not a practicing wiccan but from what I learned it has a huge emphasis on lunar cycles and the Equinoxes. what you described is New Age which in my Opinion is a derogatory term for Hermeticism (which I more or less subscribe to) which is defined as seeing a trend in many religions and ideologies and that trend being a Core truth.
Mckenna’s perceived lack of sophistication, in my opinion comes from his open use of and ad-vocation of Entheogens. His name has been given a similar negative connotation as Timothy Leary. In the appropriate circles his work is recognized.
Sadly the only interpretation of Cinderella I’m familiar with is Disney’s. I will have to look into it.
