Hi, i remember long time ago doing a project on Poisons in the middle ages, they were a very common form of assassinating people back then, was wondering if there will be any implication of this in the game to maybe find local poisonous plants and crafting a cocktail of delightful death to put in someones drink or ear as they sleep. lol I’m a huge fan of the dark methods back then.
yes you can poison people.
You have made my day sir.
Watch the last video update which has alchemy in it. I think you will be able the craft both medicine and poison there.
Personally, I would also appreciate the possibility to poison weapons. It would be interesting to dishonor yourself by slicing an enemy with a poisoned sword f.i. and to see how his status slowly aggravates. What is your opinion.
In many cultures they did that to add lethal effects to each strike, dates back all the way to caveman days when they put feces on there spears and traps, the infections it causes when it enters the blood back then was incurable and lethal within days if they survived a blow, lol but i’m sure medieval ages they had worse poisons, maybe even hallucination drugs like mushrooms to confuse the enemy during combat or slow him down or even unconscious. They have a great alchemy system implemented at the moment and i could totally see some great poison making possible with it… Atlhough i cant find much detail on it, the possibility would be super fun to use for an unhonorable edge in combat, and maybe fellow knights who see you use it would frown upon you as well lol or change attitude thinking its vile and unknightly. “Edited” - Actually i have a really good idea, Maybe you could meet the shadey merchants in the local Pubs, buy them drinks befriend them to gain trust into there shadey business society, sorta like a minigame side quest. then have a contact to sell the hides from the kings forest.
I completely agree to your detailed describtion
unlike tropical rainforests where one has a broad selection of concentrated poisons - frogs, snakes, bark and root of various vines and plants strong enough to poison a small dart - in medieval Bohemia the choices are limited. The most poisonous mushroom growing in the temperate climate (similar to New England), takes half a cap to kill an adult, in 3-5 days. The most venomous snake (diamondback) is wimpy and its bite is rarely lethal. There are no strongly venomous frogs. Maybe one could use wolfsbane root though - wolfsbane aka monkshood is a beautiful, tall easy to recognize flowering plant that grows in mountain meadows and it has very fast acting cardio-toxic and neurotoxic alkaloids (aconitine and the like). Just handling the plant with unprotected hands and then eating a sandwich can make you sick.
There is also foxglove, lily of the valley, belladonna and Jimsonweed but none of them is as strong as wolfsbane.
Inorganic mercury-based poisons (available through alchemy) are not strong and fast enough for poisoned dart/sword.
Hmmm very true, would definitely be unrealistic at that time to lace ridged swords with wolf bane or other local herbs and expect instant effects, but i do believe assassinating people with wolf bane potion while they sleep or eat would kill them by around 6 hours. Not sure if mixing the plants you mentioned will cause a severely more effective potion, but if so could work. And hey if worse comes to worse, im sure some modders will add some game-breaking poison making that works with the alchemy system for those that… want more of a fantasy game. edited actually was researching plants of england and English yew tree came up, has highly poisonous leafs might auctally fit in the games lore lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxus_baccata Historically: Yew leaf EXTRACTS were frequently used for murder and suicide Caesar writes about Catuvolcus, one of the kings of Eburones, who chose death from Taxus baccata rather than be taken prisoner
Once more to the idea of poisoning weapons. I do not think that a strong poison would be necessary to kill or at least to weaken an opponent. If you managed to hurt him with a dirty or rusty blade, this might result in a sepsis depending on the deepness of the wound and the place he was hit. This raises the question,of how customizable a weapon will be, cause generally even a very slight concentration of some poison might foster an infection.
This could also be very interesting in the tournament Mode, as these battles are not meant to end with death. You might not kill an opponent in battle, but watch him die from an infection. I took this from Game of Thrones, thus I am not sure how accurate my description is. But due to a great lack of knowledge regarding curing methods, marginal infections could easily spread throughout the entire body.
@Geisel2207 I know currently, you can apply certain potion consumables to your weapons; swords, axes, even individual arrows. I did it accidentally to an arrow with a marigold concoction clicking through my inventory too quickly. The arrow showed up with a green sludge icon next to it in the inventory menu. Lol i should have tried firing it at a low health bandit just to see if it still applied a heal, but I’m sure you’ll have much more lethal results by using actual poison to coat your blades. Also if you check out some of the combat perks you earn some of them talk about increasing the chance of applying poison to your targets. Just get some poison, select it in your menu and hit the apply button and select your weapon of choice. I don’t know how long the poison coating lasts if there is a certain amount of strikes before you have to reapply or if environmental effects can change the duration.
