I used the latter on my bro’s account before I had a Steam account and a PC of my own. I was sure I’d have a gaming computer (and subsequently a reason to have a account) by the time the beta came out. Now it seems they’ve been merged after the website change. Woops.
That is about right.
Beta version replaced the Alpha, so you can no longer play the alpha.
It’s my fault anyhow. Just wish it had said that when on the page xD.
