Music question for Jan Valta

Not a great place to put, but I was wondering if your composer, Jan Valta, would be willing to post a written version of the cue he wrote for your early alpha teaser. I’m a composer who’s learning the trade and I’d love to take a look at what he did, especially in regards to the background strings. It’s a fantastic piece and I’d love to learn from it!

Thanks.

HERE IS THE ANWER OF JAN! Also check your mails please!

Hi anthonylocke,

Thanks for nice words, I’m happy you like my music! Here is the score of the Alpha Teaser music - I’m happy to share.

It was a hard work, I have to say: being it the first piece I wrote for Kingdom Come, it took us 5 totally different versions, plus some iterations of the final one. But I’m very glad we did it that way as it gave me the impression of how whole the soundtrack should sound like.

One thing: as this piece was fully produced through sample libraries (save for the solo violin which I played myself, and the flute at the end which is performed by Adam, my colleague in Warhorse), this score is not properly orchestrated. I mean: if I would have to record it with live musicians, the dynamics and articulations should look different in many places (i.e. I don’t use such long hairpins etc.).

So please: despite the fact all the notes are exactly as you hear them in the final music, take this score just like some kind of a sketch. But we will have live recording (some 3 sessions) with a large symphony orchestra, somewhere next year - and for that I will make proper orchestrations of all the cues. If you are interested, I’ll be happy to send you some scores, then.

I’m not sure which notation software etc. you use, so I’m enclosing MIDI file, too. Perhaps you’ll find it useful. And just for sure: please, don’t give those files around, it’s just between the two of us, ok?

All best, wish you good luck with your carreer! The work we both want to do may not be the easiest, but no doubt it’s the most beautiful job in the world!

Sincerely, Jan.

Oh my! Thank you so much! I really thought this was a shot in the dark but wow. I will absolutely respect your wish and keep the files private. And I would greatly appreciate your offer to send more scores when they’re done. I’m looking forward to learning from your work!

Sincerely, Paul Cating (aka Anthony Locke)
