My experience with the Nvidia shield Tablet and KCD

Hello Backers,

I recently bought the Nvidia shield tablet and was testing out some of my games to stream them on to my tablet whit and without connecting it to a TV. After testing I went trying out some non supported games for streaming, and the first one I tried was (ofcourse :smiley: ) KCD. And I have to say, I really was blown away whit its performance!! I mean the game was just streamed 1080p straight trough my tablet (pc ultra settings) and I was now enjoying the game everywhere I want to play it!!! So first of all I want to thank you guys for making this (already) possible and enjoyable :blush: .

So after all this happiness I have a few questions: (My apologies if I may ask them to early because its still tech-alpha, it were just my thoughts I had when playing the game on the tablet)

  1. Will there be plans for adding shield play? I needed to change the options in game to xbox or ps controls, after I did it was not working correctly and some buttons where not working.
  2. If theres a reason to do 1 could that be the next pledge goal? I dont know how many gamers have the Nvidia tablet (or want/don’t want it), but the experience I had with it was working perfectly.
  3. Have you tried or thought about making this game (shield) tablet compatible (Whit it I mean long term) It already works (don’t know if you all know that already) but it can have some improvemts?

Also, are there any other backers who tried using the shield tablet with this game?
Anyways that’t is for now, going back to test some more things out :smile:

BTW there is a way to use every potent android device like the shield tab,thx to xda-devs :wink: this could be tested by others too…unfortunatively i have only a WP 7 :frowning:

I guess it’s just transferring the screen to the portable device like a desktop sharing software. So it’s a bit like a wireless connection between a display and the PC(instead of the DVI cable for example).
Should just be a matter of software to stream it via wifi on any device but needs a low ping and high bandwidth.
And the bandwidth is the big problem. The video has to be compressed(pure 1080p would use about 500MB/s which is about 80 times more than the rates you get with decent 802.11n hardware.) so it is just somewhere around mpeg quality of 720p which might be reasonable for current tablets but I am pretty sure one would prefer a 4k display if one had the choice.

A few months ago I just thought that finally you can stream 2D desktops in decent quality without lags so I have some doubts about gaming over such connection as long as the bandwidths differ that much.

I want the SHIELD… HL2, EP1 and Portal at traveling :sunny:
But too expensive for three functions.
Can’t tell how much I hate Nvidia for this release!

As far as i know there should be 1080p streaming possible,cause it uses 5ghz wlan for this feature…this on the other hand says that only 5ghz devices are capable to stream this high resolution,but for eg a nexus 10 could do the job theoretically too… btw id like to have sometimes my monitor streamed to my tablet/phone due to privacy reasons/i could play in bed etc. :wink: and id say KDC is no total Action Game like an ego-shooter where you have to have full focus on your game,id prefer to sit on my bed and play a nice round in the late evening,without having to sit in a chair :wink: So it is a nice thing if KDC runs good and smooth on a nvidiaShield-Tablet :wink:
