Natural world is phenomenal

I’m so damn impressed with the forested areas of this game. As an earth scientist and someone who has spent thousands of hours in native forests, I had to post about what an amazing job Warhorse did in this respect. The topography and landscapes in and around the towns are equally impressive, but I feel like many games have done this well. I have never seen a game that even comes close to the realism shown in the KCD woodlands.

Navigating the forests feels very natural. If I have to wade through dense brush with no visibility, I can really just move through it instinctively pretty successfully. The subtleties of the topography are so good. The placement of the outcrops and overgrowth is just prefect. It feels like they must have literally walked the entire map and used some very good GIS data. It is so good that I believe one could run accurate scientific models based on this map.

Anyways, just wanted to congratulate Warhorse, and specifically the team in charge of the natural environments. You should be proud.

I have to agree
and they actually used data from the actual terrain
since the locations are all real
They just compressed the satelitte data to get rid of useless parts and fit it in the game

Nice. Yea I came to that realization early on exploring the forests. This game really sets itself apart in that respect. Is that process documented anywhere?

I am afraid to go into the forrest. It is full of vermin!

Here is a Video where you can see it I’m sure there are also threads about it
