Need for food

I just wonder… what happens when you don’t have enough food? Does you health bar gets down? Might be actually a reason why I died with low health without even noticing it coming… weird.

guess so, definitely your stamina goes lower but i got only at 50% then I accidentaly filled Henry and got overstuffed buff…

Btw would be nice if this is handled somehow as well. When you’re hungry all the time, you get to let’s say 30% hunger, you start loosing stamina and health after that as well and if you get overstuffed when you’re completely hungry, you can get some kind of worse negative buff. For example worse stamina for long time, weakness (inability to do strong crushing blows) etc…

I am especially curious if and how will hunger and sleep mechanics influence NPCs. It could have great potential, for example when you need to beat a guard which blocks your way, you can wait until end of his shift - at this time he will be hungry, and very tired, so you can have great combat advantage. Or you can try to play nice guy and give him food as exchange for entry. Or be very bad guy and give him poisoned food, or very strong alcohol to get rid of him  So many options when we have such nice realistic mechanics instead of just persuasion check or beat into submission.

This feature doesn’t bring anything to the gameplay, food is overbundant everywhere, and you can steal food from everywhere. At most eating would be necessary before sleeping, thus coupling the rest mechanic with hunger, and not hunger and rest seperated individual stats.

historically they did it IN the plate armour.

one reason it sucks to be a squire.

Thank you! I just started the beta and immediately noticed this was a problem. Unless I go about stealing everything (which is fine… unless i’m role playing as a good guy (who’s broke AF) I can’t find food and it has rendered the beta unplayable. So stealing it is!

Another frustrating thing: I come across loads of pots of stew and I assume I need to have a bowl to place it in. Well, there are literally dozens laying around but I can’t use them. Either get rid of the trash, or let me pick one up. Make me wash it even if that’s the realism you’re going for. But i’m starving and depleted and cannot play the dang game! I really didn’t think this would be my first issue with this game. Don’t get me wrong, I actually LOVE the survival mechanic, but this definitely needs addressed in general.

You can buy food for very small amounts from any of the merchants or innkeepers. Money is not generally in short supply if you pick up and sell any swords you find on dead enemies (other things can also be sold, but the have more weight for less value).

There are a few locations where food can be taken without ‘stealing’ - I’ve found one food store in Talmberk and one in Merhojed (with the rest being ‘owned’ by someone and isn’t a communal resource). There is also a sack of apples under the tree behind the Talmberk Inn which are not yet ‘secured’.

Most corpses will have food with them, which can also be looted and used. Hares and mushrooms in the woods can be taken and used as a food item too.

Only take the minimum amount of food you need (carrying too much will result in spoiling and wastage (though spoiled food can be sold and replaced by fresh)). The food from the pots is used by the NPC already, and you can poison it when needed, (or just for shits and giggles).

I generally play as a ‘Good Christian, and a Bohemian Loyalist’, so I avoid stealing from the villages, entering private spaces when not appropriate, killing and looting of loyal citizens of Bohemia. I will however kill and loot Cumans and their bandit allies, and will use whatever natural resources I can along the way, including supplies I find in hunting camps in the woods. I find that I have no problem with acquiring whatever I need, nor with having no money.
