Need for food

Can you please remove the need to eat and drink?
We already have a lot on our plate (no pun intended) doing the quests and going about around the world.
I like the immersion but that is distracting and hindering the overall gameplay.
Thanks.

I belive most people like the need for food and drink.
But I’m sure at last there will be a mod to switch this off.

Well, I think that’s one of the major problems I encountered in game so far.

I’m not talking about eating, I played for a short time, so I don’t know how that works. I speak about stealing from civilians. You just get inside the house, wait till there’s nobody around and then rob them from everything these poor souls have. I miss the option to talk to the property-owner about buying some food or gaining it for free - and, more importantly, staying inside someone’s house whithout his permission is simply weird. I really hope NPC will not allow such a behaviour in final game.

Yes, a farmer, fisherman, hunter and so on, should be glad to sell food he doesn’t need before it’s rotten.
In the BETA the different typ of food has all the same timer before it turns bad. I guess this will not be the case in the final game.

In the current state eating/sleeping mechanisms aren’t realistic at all. It would almost be better to remove it since:

A) it IS tedious
B) gameplay is meant to be fun

And since we have to draw the realism line somewhere we could draw it here. I mean, if we pursue realism Henry should have a ā€œI-need-to-take-dumpā€ gauge as well. Imagine how fun that would be during the intense moments of a quest.

That would be fun… i would poop above a tree like the birds… and someone would pass by at the exact moment

Actually I remember there was a game, with bladder ā€˜skill’… The Sims: Deliverance

And piss from the battlements… :joy:

I really wonder how to do it in full plate armor. Is it even possible to (un)dress it without help?

Perhaps it’s a way how to keep you from finding map border in vast wilderness  Even now it’s hard to explore northern woods without getting hungry and you have to change dress all the time.

I dunno historically but today on tournament our complets are designed in such way that we can go on toilet without putting everything down  just dont forget that youre wearing jockstrap

btw npcs already react to you on some cases you enter their estate, but thats only for customized npcs like innkeeper etc, random npcs dont react at all. So I guess WH is working on that

I definitely want to keep the need for food, but (as I have stated before) food should not spoil so fast! Apples should last a week, baked chicken legs maybe 2-3 days, but there should also be food that will last longer, like salted meat, dried meat (jerky), and dried fruits. While this food would most likely be more expensive, due to the time it takes to prepare it, it should be present. Currently, I buy apples in the morning, use them throughout the day, sleep that night, and wake up ten hours later to apples that are practically spoiled. Nothing realistic whatsoever about that!

Edit–would be good to see a few places where Henry could harvest his own food–something like a rare but occasional crab apple tree growing in the wilderness. Crab apples would not be very nutritious, but do last a long time before spoiling.

Certainly!
Also I didn’t explore alchemy yet, but I hope there will be possibility to create meals only from what grows in forest/field. Such meals could fill you and possibly add positive buff to your capabilities? I’m no vegan  But I must admit that mainly vegetable meals with little or no meat can have positive effects on organism. And peasants mostly ate such food in hard times.

You can collect at least two kinds of edible mushroom in forest, but they don’t have much ā€œcaloriesā€ and we (Czechs) don’t eat them without cooking or frying. During June we have only blueberries, but only at some locations. That’s problably all you can find at early summer. Blackberries are pretty common, but in August. I guess you can have more luck with hunting animals (hare, roe deer, wild boar and some birds)

Alchemy/Herbalism, will be separate from the cooking mechanic, which is not yet fully implemented.

Currently in Beta you can drop things into the cooking pot but you cannot do anything else at this time.

there’s much more than that. Strawberries (not only fruit, but also leafs and i think roots as well), mint leafs, nettle (boiled), young spruce needles (boiled again), plantain (boiled/baked/whatever), soft bark (blegh, but it has some calories man in need shouldnt deny), wild rose hip (nothing better than this during winter! sweet, juicy, extremely rich for calories and vitamins, you should try it before they all get rotten  ), ants (like small lemons, never tried though…), crickets (again, never tried) and more.
Go to some original Bohemian forest like in Šumava, Slavkovský les etc. Can find a lot of stuff to eat, just be careful to not get wrong on your picks as we have a lot of poisonous herbs as well.
Crab apple trees (I understand this as wild apple trees?) are kinda common. Go to some abandoned village in borderlands, you most likely see most of what I mentioned above and much more! It’s still good, only not maintained for like 70 years so it all got a little bit wild and overgrown.

Edit: cant argue that you’d get pretty skinny after such feeding, but it can keep you alive.

ok so i threw potatoes in it just for fun. fair enough

We had this thematic at a german tread, how people in the middle ages prepared food to keep it edible.
For example they buried cabbage at a cool and dry place in sand and after you removed the wilted outer leaves, the cabbage was still edible.
Or they cooked fruits and made a paste and dryied it.
A smoke tent is already in the Beta. You can also use vinegar to preserve food.

I like the need for food, need for sleeping is alright, but can anyone explain to me…

How come my apple turn from fresh to rotten in just around 1 days? Apples are suppose to last for week! And my bread goes bad in around same time… Bread are suppose to survive for around 3 days isn’t it? And roasted/cooked meat goes bad as fast as uncooked meat…

So the problem about food at this moment is… How the hell am I gonna bring food ration with me when they go rotten so fast?
