New interesting NVidia video update about KCD

Just saw that.
Interesting thing. Though it should be said that it is purely in czech.

ah so your offering to translate?

dont know, they dont say much we dont already know.
When i get home i will look into it, but i promise nothing.

Uff, I made the “subtitles” here. It is not really a profesional translation but the work was made even more difficult by the fact that neither Asha nor Taobi are from CZ and so thier czech has some reservers.
Dont get me wrong, their czech is great but translating means altering every second sentence.

So here it is:

Asha:

Hi, warm
greetings from Warhorse Studio.

My name is Asha, Asha Nowak. I am working in WH as researcher of historical environment,
history, culture and medieval times.

Tobi:

I am Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, PR manager at Warhorse Studio. PR means Public Relations so I am trying to talk to both Media and fans.
I am also preparing events, expos which we attend to present our game to fans so they can
understand what we do.

A:

The thing which consumes most of my time is creation of database, not only text database
about medieval times, but also database of image references.

T:

All these people are trying to work on KCD of course and KC should be as graphically
demanding as possible so we can depict how it really was and then show it on
the screen.

A:

Where am I taking the materials? The sources can be found mostly in libraries, archives
and different kinds of illuminations and manuscripts, which are nowadays
digitalized. Which makes things easier for us.

Often my work is not only about history, buildings or architecture but also about whole
environment, scenery and locations that are in the game.

T:

When some idea is born here, it comes mostly from Design department where sits our
Creator director Daniel Vávra. And when he delivers some idea, when the
department delivers an idea, then this idea goes along our Asha, or for
example, Joanna, which will check whether it is historically correct, whether
it could be like this or not.

A:

This means that together we are trying to create maps based on available texts, illuminations
or image materials, which we managed to accumulate in our library/database.

We are creating our own catalogs, databases, which I examine and add to them more
details. And then when designers want to create new event or quest, they can
use this database.

T:

If they (Asha, Joanna) approve, it goes further into our system. Which means 3D or 2D guys, build around this idea a world, some locations, buildings, people etc.

Programmers and animators are then trying to make it alive so the characters start moving, doing something and overall have their life cycles. And when all this is done and people and models are doing what they should, the scripters step in.

Scripter department is a junction connecting every other department, so everything that is done in the studio goes inevitable to them.

Scripters are the guys which will produce the alpha, beta. Simply put, all the
"playable" versions.

A

Otherwise when we create all the architecture which is important part of the world, my main task is not only look after everything looking nice and being according the architectural style but also things having some logic. So when a player enters a building he/she should see real building and some logical interconnections. It has to be believable object. The materials have to look as in the medieval times.

So every detail, connection, plate and decoration has some meaning and its place.

T:

In order to achieve that, we need not only graphics or engine but we also need to talk to
and consult ideas with professionals. For example combat animations. We need true swordsmen and fencing masters, which spend their days by nothing but practicing. So we invite them in WH studio and we are trying to put all those attacks and moves into our game with help of our mo-cap studio.

So the actor/swordsman will be given the black suit with those strange white dots and his/her movements will be recorded by cameras standing around the room. And that is how we are able to put the motions accurately on the screen.

A:

We are trying to technically prepare the game as best as possible. I hope that you will be able to try the alpha version which is available on the steam right now. In few months there will be released also Beta version.

So I hope you will try it and I hope you will like it.

If you have some ideas you can follow us on Youtube or Facebook and you can write to us
there. We will carefully think about what you like and what you dont.

I also hope that you are looking forward to the final game (released next year in summer).

Greetings
from Prague
