Nintendo Wii U version development

Hello there, I’m the Wii U user and I were wondering why such an amazing game isn’t said to be planned on Wii U as well. Games using Cry Engine like upcoming Nintendo exclusive Sonic Boom or unreleased (due to EA’s lack of cooperation with Nintendo) port of Crysis 3 have no any problems with being played on Wii U with beautiful graphics and smooth framerate.

Aside from technical specification and the fact that Wii U really can be a powerful console when you use it’s full potential, eight generation Nintendo console has much more to offer in view of its Game Pad features and full support of motion controls.

I’m looking forward to see your opinion about this topic and hopefully without any unwise and nonsense console war responds. And I would also like to ask makers, what are their thoughts on this one.
I don’t demand, I only wanted to hear if there is any hope that your brilliant game could be released on Wii U system. Maybe even long after it launches for confirmed versions but just a little info if there is any chance for it being released for Nintendo. If not, why?

Its probably a mixture of a small install base and the fact it is significantly less powerful that current-gen consoles. Im not trying to have a go but it possibly requires too much additional work to get it running smoothly on WiiU.

I think Nintendo screwed up quite a lot with Wii U, and I think the primary reason a Wii U release is unrealistic is the sub-par hardware. It seems to be equal to that of X360 and PS3. On top of this their toolchain is supposed to be pretty bad, and their support lacking.

For a good article on why the Wii U is problematic to work with, read this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-secret-developers-wii-u-the-inside-story

WiiU is orders of magnitude slower than current-gen consoles, let alone high-end PCs. It would hold the game back too significantly. See Witcher 3 also, only developed on current-gen and PC. Same reason.

Plus the fact that it just did not sell does not help matters.

I think that everyone here is hitting it right on-the-head. Wii U was a little more capable with the Xbox 360 and PS3, but with the current-gen consoles Nintendo has fallen behind. I’m not saying that this is the complete reason for the zero development on the Wii U (it may be more difficult to develop for); I think it’s sales and their demographics. There are millions of people on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. A little fact to back that statement up, PS4 beats Wii U lifetime sales in 48 hours. Not that many people playing on Wii U, and if they are most likely they have another platform to play on.

Ok I may understand you but I got Wii U and it plays beautiful graphics so well. And compared to previous gen it is way better.

One thing I wanted to say and show you about the sales: http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/01/07/what-sonys-42-million-ps4s-sold-figure-actually-means

The total number of Wii U users is about the same to average of rest consoles and it’s still going up. It only depends on people if they finally decide to choose the system.
Aside from technical capabilities which are lower from PS4 and Xbox One, it is truly this next-gen, an eight generation console and what it has inside of it is good enough to run big multiform games.

I think that only problem with Wii U is it’s marketing and lack of knowledge around the gamers and developers. Even tho it still has a large and active community of users (see Miiverse).
I only wanted to ask the game creators if they could just consider an option of releasing Kingdom Come for Wii U in the future. And since it’s a full of potential and capabilities fun console I hope that bringing the fun of having this game for a wider range of players would be a pleasant experience to all of us.

WiiU just doesnt have enough power and memory. Thats it. We like Nintendo, we like WiiU, but we can hardly squeeze the game to run on the platform.

Wii U a.k.a. Disappoint U a.k.a. Weak U is irrelevant both power & saleswise and it’s all but Nintendo’s fault, it could have been next Super Nintendo 2, but because of Nintendo’s penny-pinechering, it became the laughing stock of the gaming community instead.

Wii U can run multiplats like Deus Ex: Human Revolution or Batman because these are primarily coded for old-gen and that’s it. Despite the Wii U was the biggest performance-leap among consoles (in comparison with X360 to Xbone as well as with PS3 to PS4) it’s only at the slightly higher level of performance than PS3/X360 which means nowhere near PCs or PS4/XOne. Maybe if Nintendo offered partnership to Warhorse, they would downgraded Kingdom Come for Nintendo’s ultra cheaply designed hardware.

But that’s not gonna happen and Kingdom Come will be available only for economically viable&relevant platforms like PC is and next-gen consoles eventually will be at the time of KC release.

I have to say… you nailed it, bro!

Sorry man Dan has spoken. Plus you kind of shot yourself in the foot with that article since it only serves to illustrate how much trouble the WiiU is in. It took the WiiU 11 months to sell fewer units than the PS4 sold in 6 weeks. Both the Xbox One and PS4 are on a trajectory to have a massive install base by the time KC: D comes out but the WiiU is not in such a comfortable position. Sorry mate it just isn’t on the cards. Im sure Nintendo will keep on churning out stuff you’ll enjoy if you enjoy Nintendo’s stuff.

@Torandi I remember that article. As I recall, it’s also a load of bunk. The toolset for the Wii U has been almost universally praised by most 3rd party developers.

That said, the Wii U (which I do enjoy) just doesn’t have the horsepower for a game like this. It’s this, not a difficult or bad toolset, that has pushed away most of the developers.

You know this topic got me thinking, yeah I’d love it on Wii U too since I’m planning on getting one but then I noticed the same replies I’ve seen like a hive mind over and over.

Yeah I’ve decided it actually doesn’t matter because this game isn’t going to be the best in the world and Nintendo has decent games out there that aren’t even on the other platforms (Bayonetta 2 for example).

Then again these days most people on said platforms are usually more about graphics than fun games.

It’s a shame this situation is Majority over Minority (somehow Linux gets a say).

Yeah, its a generally accepted fact that the Wii U is underpowered and while it can’t display the same kind of graphical quality as next gen (and pc) it also cant handle the strain that these games would put on it. How would the Wii U handle several thousand NPC’s on screen with a 1.3 ghz tri core and 2GB of ddr3 ram? The “next” gen consoles have 8 GB of ram and the ps4 has an 8 core processor.
