Non-lethal (stealth) attacks

As many of you know, in stealth games it is the “custom” to give the possibility of using non-lethal attacks, sometimes even after the player character has been spotted.

It would be cool to see this for once implemented in a role-playing game too.

Say, Henry’s assigned a mission to sneak into a castle and take/steal some documents or key or whatever. There are servants. One of them spots him and wants to run to alert a guard or his master. What to do? If Henry has no other options but to run away or kill the servant (or you to load the game), down the drain goes either the mission (retry later?) or Henry’s heroism. (Variant: the servant is close to discover Henry: he enters the room where Henry is in and closes the door. There is no other exit, no other opened door. What to do? etc.)

sneak up behind someone, press “F” and you can choke them til they pass out (no option to keep choking til they die)

sadly, while they are out for probably an hour or so game time it’s only a few minutes real time…and then they go tell everyone you attacked them (even though they never seen you)

however, knocking people out can be a nice way to kill them without harming their armour (just stab them in unarmoured areas while they are down)

i think they need to do something about time in this game before knocking people out will be valid.

Wait… what? Sneaky approach? Choke people? what currently in the beta? Seems I missed a lot of gameplay still, heh! How do I become a “sneaky guy”? Whenever I crouch and sneak behind someone, nothing happens, nor can I do anything…

Sneak up close behind someone, then press kick/punch which is “F” to choke down a target. They don’t stay down long, but you can either finish them off or carry them a little way. It is in some ways easier to just shoot someone in the head (which is very dangerous from close range when you can aim well).

It isn’t “stealth” in the sense that you can steal stuff and escape though, as the person who didn’t see you coming will still correctly identify you as their ‘murderer’ once they recover, and people over-react as if you actually did kill someone even after they get back up.

Also it doesn´t work on everybody and sometimes doesn´t work at all :smiley: I for example couldn´t choke anyone, and boy did I tried… :smiley:

i think stats might play a part in it, i can choke peasants but not soldiers for some reason…my stealth might not be high enough.

If your stealth is higher, can you choke someone and they AREN’T able to identify you?

I don’t know if to report this as a bug or it’s unfinished feature. It seems that it works only on bandits and perhaps few other people and I believe there are more bugs to be discovered.

Can you try it on the soldier in the first house (bathhouse)? He is sleeping.

and i dont even understand what to do to raise that stealth skill at all, lol!
