Non-pledged Access?

Is there any likelihood that players who haven’t pledged will be allowed beta access? Perhaps some form of open beta or demo? As much as I want to try the game, I’m at the same time very hesitant to back crowdfunded projects like this due to the ever-present possibility of it just tanking out of the blue. If something like that were to occur, I’d be out my $50 and the likelihood of getting it back would be questionable at best. I’m also very much a try-before-you-buy sort. I either need extremely strong recommendations from people I know really well, a decent period post-release for plenty of reviews to gather up and a general consensus among reviews that the game is good, or hands-on access before I’m willing to commit to purchasing a game.

TL;DR? I’m kinda hesitant about spending money on this in its current state and wondering if there will be opportunities for free beta access later down the line.

Then wait for release and watch reviews. No one is forcing you to back the project.

The Beta is not a representation of the final product, don’t buy it unless you’re expecting to crash every 5 minutes and run it at 18fps.

Okay, but what if I also want to help test the game and provide the feedback necessary to turn it into a polished product? From that standpoint it also seems more than a little unfair to have to pay in order to help improve it. That said, I understand the reasoning behind it, but occasional offers of free access to the beta(though not the final release) would both solve that issue and still bring in income from those willing to pay for instant access.

In either case, your response fails to answer the main question asked, and as such it is not(in my opinion) a particularly meaningful contribution.

I cannot give you an official answer as I am only a community moderator, but I have not heard of any plans to make the beta open access.

@DrFusselpulli care to weigh on on this?

This project was made possible and continues to thrive on crowdfunding.

A third party separate from WH, and myself are planning a give away in which there will be multiple opportunities to when beta access (final release included) keep active in the forums details should be posted soon. There was also a recent story contest hosted by WH to when beta access.

Okay, such events are more than satisfactory. In fact, the presence of such events completely negates the first point to which you attempted to provide a counter. I will attempt to keep an eye out for future news on this matter, though attempt is the operative word, as the manner in which these forums are laid out is a touch confusing.

Free beta access never happens for single player games because they have the potential to soil the story before release, which can cost them sales. Open beta tests are mostly for multiplayer games.

True enough, which is why I also proffered the idea of a demo. In an early access phase like this a demo would still be useful for testing while cutting out most of the story and thereby the spoilers that would destroy the point of purchasing the game.

They have thousands of testers already so I doubt they’re worried about offering a free alternative to gain more testers.

Except you can never have too many testers, particularly for a game of the scale planned.

You can’t have too many, (well theoretically you could, if millions were posting bug reports) but you can have enough.

So basically what you are saying is that you want to have for free what the rest of us has paid for? Perhaps there will be a demo once the game is finished but until then I really don’t see why WH should bother to make a demo of a demo just to cater the need of gamers that can’t spot a good game in development even if it jumps out from the screen and smacks them in the forehead. This game exists in it’s current state because of crowd funding and only for that reason. If you don’t like the monetary risk involved when getting into projects like this - don’t get involved. It is your choice. But coming here asking for priviliges just as if you HAD chipped in some money is almost an insult to the thousands like myself who actually “risked” their hard earned cash by backing Kingdom Come: Deliverance long before there even was anything to showcase.

If you are even remotely interested in this type of games, throw $50 at them. You won’t regret it.

Cheers!

I am saying I am hesitant to drop $50 on any crowdfunded project but still want to help improve it and see its potential. I am not in any way implying that your contribution is not important nor am I “asking for privileges as if I had chipped in some money”. In fact I am not asking for anything other than information as to Warhorse’s future plans on that front. I also do not appreciate you trying to paint me out to be, for lack of a better term, a douchebag. If you’ve nothing constructive to add and you’re only here to attack me, then I suggest you shut up and get the fuck out.

If you really want to help - drop $50 (or any amount you chose) like the rest of and get beta access. Pretty simple really…

Advising you as to what to do if you have no valid contribution and only attacks now equates to name-calling. Yep. That totally makes sense.

step it down a bit guys.

I’m trying to remain civil. Trying being the operative word.

No, Beta access is not for free but for backers only. Demos are not so important anymore in the Time of youtube. Yes, if is different if you see someone playing the game then play it for yourself, but you can get a nice view into it for free, you don´t have to buy it blindly.
