What elements and styles do backers think Warhorse should incorporate if our hero wants to take the non-violent route. Speech-checks like fallout series, perhaps a mini-game while doing a stare-down? doing some detective work/clue finding to convince/blackmail? Discuss.
With the speech checks, the Kickstarter information said branching dialogue so maybe the player can talk their way out of a certain situation depending if the player completed certain objectives in a certain way. Another way could be the armor or type of cloth the man is wearing. Like let’s say you are attempting to gain entrance into a lord’s home, you wouldn’t be allowed in if wearing beggars clothes but a noble-man, that’s a different story.
not just talking. i want to beat people unconscious with a club or stab them in the legs until they surrender, then tie them up and bring them to the prison for interrogation and torture.
There is a video (unfortunately only in czech) where Dan Vávra said that there could be quests like “you will be investigating murder, so you must find right evidences which will lead you to the murderer.” I think we can expect these type of quest. Ofcourse there will be multiple solution but he also mentioned in video that you could send (or kill that will depends on you) a wrong person to the jail and this could result in bad reputation for you or worse things. (sorry for my bad english)
I enjoy the idea of scrounging up some noble clothes and walking brazenly into a secure area just because you are dressed properly. If any of the guards try to question you then just shout them down, demanding to know who the hell they think they are talking to a lord in such a manner!
i don’t think you can just scrounge up noble clothes. if you have money, you can buy them readily. and if not, you can’t just order them made. unless you steal the clothes, then you’re probably screwed for the rest of the game and will be known as a brigand and treated as such.
apparently theft in medieval bohemia was a big deal.
also, your diction would betray your social class. you’re still an illiterate commoner, so likely you won’t be shouting down anyone.
that whole thing sounds hollywood to me. i want authenticity.
Ok then your friend (the female character that is now playable) is a seamstress for the local lord. She supplies you with some of his clothes to travel to the map’s other castle. Before you arrive you change into the clothes she supplied, once inside you affect an accent, they are not a modern invention, and shout down the guard. Antics ensue.
If that is still too Hollywood then you start the game as a blacksmith, your family is killed by a marauding army. You continue to be a blacksmith, spending the next 30 hours of game time making horse shoes, sleeping, and going to church. After 30 hours the main character dies of a disease.
Who actually wants to use non-violent solutions when there is punch of historical badass weapons for solving any trouble?
I still thing putting on a good enough accent to convince a guard would be possible. Im not saying any other nobles are going to be convinced but a semi convincing accent and authentic behaviour, e.g. acting like everyone is beneath you, would let you pass. It was just a development of Jorge’s post.
Con man have been around for quite some time to, why wont people be able to get places if they act the part. People can enter unauthorized places without people asking these days why not then
I, in my personal opinion, would think its a swell idea to ha- WAIT JUST HEAR ME OUT ON THIS!
-ve non violent solutions. I played Dishonored without killing anyone. It was more fun that way in my opinion.
Speaking of which, I think a behind-the-back-chocking-knockout mechanic would be a great, as opposed to the usual behind-the-back-backstab mechanic.
For those who disagree, why not just use both mechanics?
I can also see how dialogue can get you out of a fight, or rather, prevent a fight all together.
You could also use INDIRECT means into causing deaths, such as you sneak into a keep under siege and just unlocking the front door.
I think it would be cool if there was a type of speech craft system in the game. That way maybe at first when you start the game it would obviously be harder to convince a guard. But as the game progresses and you level your speech craft up it becomes easier to conjure a fake accent to get past the guards.
Yeah thats what i thought when they told you that your clothes can get dirty and bloody. I mean which townguard would let you in all covered in blood? Or which noble would speak to you in a dirty peasant outfit? And I also hope you cant just walk into the hall of the king an demand an audience. You should need to have a name in the world an be know to be able to get to the king.
Hopefully @J0nShannow and @nick2263 are correct. I would love to get rejected entrance to an area by a guard just to come back with noble-mans clothes and telling him to step down!
