Open letter from Cryengine/Crytek

Dear CRYENGINEERS,

2014 has been an exciting year for Crytek and CRYENGINE. On May 28th, we officially launched the CRYENGINE Engine-As-A-Service (“EaaS”) program on Steam for as little as $9.90 per month. We’re very happy with the success of this launch and we continue to see our numbers grow every day which encourages us to keep moving forward and striving to build the best game development platform for you to achieve your vision on. In this short time since, we’ve already seen several indie projects go commercial, such as The Memory of Eldurim, Miscreated and Ultraworld. Throughout 2015 we hope to see this continued growth in the CRYENGINE community and we are going to be doubling-down on our efforts to help make this happen.

We’re almost at the end of the 3.6.x versions of the engine and we’re currently in the process of making some major structural changes for the 3.7.x line. As many of you may already be aware, the CRYENGINE SDK always had a unique place within Crytek, in that a separate team has maintained, integrated, shared and collaborated with the internal game teams to create the “SDK branch”. We saw a major Crysis 2 integration for CRYENGINE 3.4.0, a complete Crysis 3 codebase for CRYENGINE 3.5.0 and a major update to the renderer and other features from Ryse for 3.6.0.

For CRYENGINE 3.7.0 we’re integrating everything. We want you to know that the success of CRYENIGNE is at the top of our priorities and to achieve our vision for the engine we’re not only merging codebases, but also teams. Our new project “Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age”, the CRYENGINE EaaS and licensee builds and future projects are all being built out of the one “main” branch. This is a major step forward in unifying our goals, our teams, our talent and strength in order to push the engine forward harder than we ever have before. This means more developers on-hand, working to improve on or create new features from your feedback and squashing bugs which you’ve helped us isolate. We look forward to working with you throughout 2015 and beyond to align more with your goals, your requests and ideas to create a truly unique and powerful platform to develop your games on.

For now, we wish you happy holidays and a joyful new year and we’ll see you in 2015!
