Patch 1.4 without HD pack, Vegetation Texture Downgrade, Pictures Before and After/ UPDATE: PATCH 1.4.1 took care of the BUG

Before

After

Interesting, why downgrade the textures ? To somehowe make the difference more pronounce when installing the HD Pack ? This is shady play from WH if it’s not a bug. Btw, there are others who noticed the difference first.

UPDATE 1: I think i know what is going on, every time i go to Graphical settings, My settings are reseting to HIGH from ULTRA. When changing it back up to ULTRA game needs to be restarted.

UPDATE 2: Patch 1.41 Helped, working as it shloud. Case Closed

Mine looks normal. Actual screen with HD-DLC:

(screenshot with reshade, so slightly sharpened, but the textures seem to be ok in vanilla, though)

DLC says not installed in my Steam library. Selecting to download from Steam just starts the game.
Andi.

Read the title again… It says WITHOUT HD DLC. So in order to justify the DLC WH decided to downgrade stock textures to have the impact be more visible.

Oh, ok, sorry. Got it wrong. Now that´s annoying!

It’s fine. It just makes me bit mad at WH for such shady practices, this doesn’t bode well for the futre updates. Unfortunate because the game is really great. I’ll install the HD textures later, from your screen it looks like the Vegetation will be back to 4k bit map again. Hows the othe textures ? any impovements ?

I´m not sure about. I´ve got not so much screenshots (pre hd-dlc) to compare. Some wood looks as ugly as before the dlc, but some walls seem to be improved, maybe. I´ll try to compare some places of my old screenshots, if possible. But the overall performance is better.

No one can provide proof because this updates done NOTHING…

I had the same problem. Do you have the steam client installed right? OK I went to my library and downloaded all the DLC’s (HD texture pack, HD audio, etc) then the game started and I was like WTF?? I closed the game trying to find a solution, so I tried downloading again (game re started) closed and went to the steam client, and then i noticed it was downloading in the background.

I hope this works for you mate, people say, download, wait for the game to start and then quit, it’ll start the download.

Yeah, if i had known about hd content, i would have taken explicit screenshots before, to compare later. Right now, we know nothing.

Sorry for my english, i´m german.

Just found this (starts at 1:26)

It’s barely noticeable. It really is bad lol. There is almost no change at all in some of these comparisons

They’ve done fuck all apart from inconvenience everyone

i tried the hd texture pack and i dont see any difference from before. What a joke. Warhorse Studio make me nervous

What was the point? To brag about free DLC ? I also do play at 1440P at ultra, plus i also do screenshots with supersampling. Almost zero change to actual resolution of the texture, there are minor “artistic” changes

Seems logical and a great solution.
Downgrading base textures (might be subtle but will certainly help systems on the edge of running well.)
Users with power to burn can load better set.

Makes sense. Done to help the lowest common denominator.
(What everyone has been demanding every time we complain that performance is bad).
We are literally begging them to strip bits wherever they can to increase frame rate/performance.

Thinking outside the box. Whilst this isnt for me- glad the team is dynamic/on their feet enough to do it.

What this forces is people who dont understand their systems not really being right to do ultra/or having some sort of bottleneck. . They can now run whatever and it moght work a better. More advanced users who are comfortable with what they are doing can run the dlc.

First of all, some of you are insane with conspiracy theories. The HD sounds and HD textrures are the uncompressed files of all the original sound and art. In game design you usually compress everything and the graphics card uncompresses them on the fly. This loses a bit of fidelity but the graphic cards have some tricks to try and make it up. Think of how a standard MP3 sounds compared to FLAC. The MP3 compression algorithm eliminates what it thinks is unimportant to listener. When your sound card or playback device plays it back it can either take it as is or try and re-add some of the lost dimensions from the initial compression. But at any rate it’s fake and is not the original artists exact version. So some don’t see/hear a difference between the two and others do. Depends on the person and the hardware. It’s all in the name of performance and filesize.

So in respect to the two pictures shown in the first post I see no difference whatsoever, except for one thing… the first image is closer to the leaves than the second, this you get to see finer detail on the leaves. And where I come from that’s not an honest comparison. In regards to the higher levels of textures in game vs. the HD texture FLC - you may not see/hear a difference. Why? Because your video card is doing a good job of extrapolating the compressed data and relaying it to your monitor already.
