Perfromance issues on PC

Right so I’m forced to nudge my settings down to medium despite the fact that my system blows the required settings out of the park.
Now these are my specs, and I’m hoping somebody can help me.

Windows 10 (though, it needs to be reactivated via key)

Intel Core i7 7700 @ 3.60GHz
Kaby Lake 14nm Technology

8.00GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1066MHz (Corsair vengeance)

MSI B250M MORTAR (MS-7A69) (U3E1) (MOBO)

E2442 (1920x1080@60Hz)
3071MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB (MSI)

My HDD is about 6 years old, which is what I originally believed was the problem, however old HDDs can cause stuttering but not constant graphical problems and low FPS (though correct me if I’m wrong). All of my hardware is 6 months old and 2 of my friends with capable hardware, about 1000 dollars worth of stuff more than me have the same problem. So can somebody tell me what the hell is going on? Am I correct to think that maybe this is a performance issue with the engine itself?

I should add that this hardware can run Witcher 3 graphical mods on max level settings with no problems (the mod adds its’ own graphical settings).

There are two possible answers I can think of in your situation.

  1. Increase RAM. 8gb of RAM was the minimum required. I myself am running on a slightly worse setup than you, I think, but I recently added 16gb and havent had any problems aside from the occasional bug.
Which leads me to the second possibility.
  2. Wait a couple of days for the first big patch. I’ve read somewhere they wanted to release it within 2 weeks after release and should focus on bugs and performance.
Option 2 is of course the cheaper one of the two, and probably isn’t a bad shout. You’re not the only one with problems on the PC version, and I can imagine the patch will fix a lot of things. But keep in mind that your RAM may be holding you back a bit.

I have actually monitored the RAM usage of the game, and it seldom allocates more than 8 GB.

However, the game is not very well optimized, I have read that it uses excessively complicated and deminding lighting system, so try lowering these values - physics, lighting, shaders, shadows. I have found out they have the most pronounced impact on performance.

RAM isn’t going to distrupt my FPS. Yes 8GB RAM is the minimum, but it’s enough. No point in buying extra RAM if the RAM I have can handle the Witcher 3, BF1 and Battlefront 2. The engine they are using is much older than the engines of those games. I can definitely say that this is an optimisation issue.
