Persistent world, NPC travelling, conflicts, crimes, raids and radiant quests

Some suggestions to improve late game gameplay or post-narrative gameplay, game longevity, etc.
I already searched over the forum for specific or related threads so sorry if this could be in a better place.

After many hours I really enjoyed this game, so take this as suggested ideas not complains neither requirement, more like a request.

I know some of these are very time-consuming but other don’t.
I have some fascination for games like STALKER (2007) or sequels with real persistent world with NPCs living and acting in background with some autonomy, Deliverance has great background on villages and towns for villagers and habitants but more random activities events and things happening would be great.

  • About NPCs:
Random brawl fights for various reasons (drunks, wife, money debts etc) or similar conflicts, Henry or guards could join or not.

Killers, robbers or thiefs at nights, wearing black clothes, Henry or guards could catch them and put them in jail (villagers could see them and shouting thief… thief xD)

Outside of cities cumans or bandits could attack villagers or steal from them (day or night) fighting with guards and or escape with loot) Henry could catch them or hunt them later after he follows their tracks, or stealing/dealing with them, choices…

Some crime related events like gallows executions from people in jail, jail evasions, catch criminals, public disgrace to humiliate small criminals.

Most of this events could occur in background without Henry’s action, without his near presence or in real time world, some may trigger radiant secondary quests types which could be completed many times.

Special events once per week or per month (like special markets, music parties, tournaments, oh wait that would be included

Outdoors, more persistent world mechanics, like people poaching, hunters poaching or selling food and traveling around the map, escaping from bandits etc, groups of poachers in camps.

Cumans or bandits instead of simple locational spawns could have routes between camps, interact with villages, travellers, carriages if they could be included or merchants parties travelling around villages.

More fauna and more woods guards to preserve animals from poachers.
Bandits or Cumans could have problems between them and Henry could help one or another faction or do nothing.
Once the dynamic travelling works, all this mechanics could be implemented all together.

The evolution for random spawns or encounters is a more random travelling system for NPCs, the interactions which derive from that and the new events/scenarios on cities, crimes etc.

The game map design it is one of the best with realism, designed ever, but we need more things to do, and more things to happen.

I think it’s better if they invested time to make these additions directly to main game of KCD 2 than further stretch the gameplay of KCD, since they have full hands of bugfixes and DLCs, it would take almost another game development cycle to make all kinds of expansions. Plus, I’m more interested in story than sandbox features.

It sounds great, but I think that most people would people would be too busy with their quests or just whatever they’re doing to stop and look around for these extra little features. And after a while they’d get repetitive, a bit of a waste of time and effort to develop something that will only interest people for a short while.

I do think that adding some more poachers, bandits etc, travelers etc would help. I love the little encounters on the road whilst travelling, only they don’t happen that often and there aren’t that many different ones so by now I know them all. Due to this lack of NPC’s wandering around the roads between places can feel very empty, even when you are riding past fields, almost no-one seems to work on the fields for some reason.

So well, more events and special groups and mechanics wouldn’t really be needed, but a increase of activity outside of and between villages and towns would be nice.

Roaming bands of NPC factions is one of my favorite FO4 PS4 mods. Enabling roaming squads of Cuman horse archers and lancers would be huge for me. Hope it happens someday

yes and no, the story will last only for so long, sandbox features will last as long as you find them interesting. The game need to generate a revenue, revenue can only be generated by sales of the main game or DLC.

Great post, TarekJor!

The lack of world consistency and dynamism were probably my biggest disappointments in this game (still not finished). The world/NPCs feel very predictable, empty and uninteresting if not involved in a quest (you can’t do anything apart from pickpocketing and killing them), random encounters are the opposite of dynamic but static (always occur in the same spots, gets so repetitive and there is no more surprising factor when making the same round trip a few times).

That’s not the impression I got from their videos prior release, and after finishing the main story, I won’t find much interest to come back (despite I see more dialogue options and even some quests I missed; even less when we have to wait more than a year for modding tools). The dynamism and real randomness of unexpected events/NPC behaviours is what would keep this game interesting and different from each playthrough for years, while now many players leave when finishing the game (understandable, that’s why I’m postponing my playthrough). To have great stories is fundamental, no doubt, but you won’t watch the same movie time after time or you’ll get sick of it. It’s the gameplay/world dynamics what would keep the game alive, and either due to low budget, overambitious aim or bad management/design/planning, the game lacks this complexity, variety and consistency.

Kind of losing hope after From the ashes DLC and patches trend… It looks as one of “what if” cases in the future.

Wholeheartedly agree. For me, I’d roam more.

Nowadays, if the guards win the day, they often walk on. I’m so hoping WH is using that as a stepping stone to roaming groups of bandits and Cuman.

If WH just adds a grindstone and calls it a day with ashes, I may not trust another customer requested DLC produced by WH ever again
