Custom AI and physics. I know there are much performance issuses on older cards and cpu, why Developer don’t make a setting like in graphics. That would solve performance issues and dont limit the potiential on better cards. For example a usual AI ( small daily routine, less options how npcs interactive…)
and a complexer AI (Npc do crime or fall in love, Npc light the fire at evening ect.)
Also in general physics …simple physic and advanced physics ( fire expire after time ect.) Why developer downgrade a game?
imho, what you suggested could only work as long as those options does not interfere with the game-play. And changing AI would always affect game-play directly somehow. More options = more problems to solve. When it comes to physics I would appreciate some settings… questions is what is really possible when you have hundreds NPCs involved ( large scale battles ).
If you need more and more settings for everything, it’s usually first sign of bad game design… And it generally isn’t a good way to go.
Do you mean in graphic too? Then all should be buy the same hardware or the graphic and physic should be like since the last 10 years wirhout changing. Why should it be a bad sign please explain me. A good game design should fit on every modern computer, that need settings.
Crysis used a physic setting for example and was one of the most impressive games based on graphic and physic at that time.
I would not say they haved a bad game design.
Nope, not really talking about graphics But yeah, even graphics can fit in this, but only in extreme cases, like in War Thunder ground forces, where you could set graphics so low, that you wouldn´t see any grass or bushes at all, giving you HUGE advantage over players with grass on = BAD game design, bad move to give players this choice. See now? Not every choice is necessary good.
If the game is supposed to have great physics engine, EVERY player should have this physics engine enabled when you play the game. What would be the point of physics engine, its development time wasted, its debugging time wasted, harddisk space wasted, if only like 50% of players would benefit from that system? Same goes for AI, if 50% of players wouldn´t be able to run the game without this system enabled, its absolutely wasted.
Either optimize it in such way that every player with atleast mediocre PC can enjoy it, or don´t have it ingame at all. If its ingame, but most players have it disabled, otherwise they can´t play the game - its bad game design, especially when its such critical part as physics engine or AI simulation in open world RPG, where it completely changes how players perceive and enjoy their game.
Its better if player can´t play the game at all (and can enjoy it later, when his PC is upto modern standart), then if he plays the game, but its completely different than what it was supposed to be. And KDC main technological advancements against competition is PHYSICS based combat, and very complex AI. Turn this off, what you have left? Reskinned skyrim with some extra feats and new story, without magic, yay…
