I’m sure someone on this forum has come with a suggestion similar to mine, but here it is. It can get pretty boring to look at the same animation where Henry picks up one nettle, stands up, then bends down to pick up another and so on. Let’s say you see three nettles. You press E to collect. It would then search for how many objects that are in that certain area, and you would be able to pick up either all or just some of them with the help of a slider to decide. If you choose all three you would see an animation of Henry collecting all three at once using the same animation where his arms are moving in different directions. If there were two different collectable plants very close to eachother, and you chose to aim at x you could only pick up x.

As you increase your herbalism skill Henry gathers more of the same herb type from the local area than he does as a neophyte. (When you start the beta you have no entry for the herbalism skill at all, and are starting an entirely new skill with your first gathering action).
Whether this is anything more than a gameification is open to debate, and it would seem plausible that even a dimwit would already know how to pick a flower… but it is what it is, and it does get faster with some practice.
