Pickpocketing help

Ok I’m trying to learn pick pocketing on console, xbox and can’t figure it out. I can get to the point where I can “reveal” the item, then I hit A button to “take item” which highlights it in yellow…but I never actually take the item and keep getting caught. Am i missing something?

Yes, you have to reveal the item, pick it up, then move to the door icon to exit.
I tried like 100 times on the trial and didn’t success…

Holy heck thats a lot of stuff to do in a few seconds. super hard

I heard that the most time you keep pressed the “use” button (idk which one is in xbox, pc is “E”) the more time you will have later to select the item and the door icon.

Also, the more probability to get caught at the moment, so its quite difficult :< I give up from pickpocketing and opening doors/chest by now…

I was able to pickpocket in the tutorial after 50 plus tries. I have definitely given up on lock picking already. it’s insanely hard.

yes this is true… there are steps to a pickpocket
step one is engage the pick-pocketing and this will bring up the counter… you want to try to hold this as long as you can, once it goes green your able to go to phase 2 by releasing the button however, like you said you the longer you hold this the more time you have on phase 2 but u have to be careful cuz you go too long and youll get caught
phase 2 brings up the wheel. you have to uncover the item your trying to get or if its a random pickpocket then the items available to steal, highlight it till it turns yellow then make it back to the door to exit in time…

thanks for the detailed walkthrough, I wasn’t sure what the red/green colors meant either. I could see this getting easier, lock picking on the other hand is another story

are you playing on Xbox PC or PS4

PC seems EXTREMELY easy since you only have to really be skilled with mouse while holding a fucking key… Console you have to use both analog sticks and my advice for that is find the gold spot with the one and then the stick you have to rotate all the way around, always start at 12 position and go either clockwise or counter clockwise, that way that stick it always easy, then its just the matter of keep the dot in the same spot with the other stick

Yes, seems easy but it vibrates a lot, is not that easy as just move your hand in the same direction, vibrates that much that changes the direction lol

i dont kno i seem to smash through lockpicking… pretty sure you can turn vibrate off but i havent

I’m on xbox, it’s extremely tricky using thumb sticks. keeping the right thumbstick location in the gold zone wile rotating both thumb sticks at the same time is hard af. I get that it should be hard at first…but THIS hard is questionable. Console version needs some tweaking in my opinion

it just will take some practice… took me a few times but now that i get the system its just like archery… hard at first but now i smash it… obviously the difficulty of the lock matters… if your low lvl dont expect to be opening hard chests… ur gonna just break picks, you have to get extremely lucky…

My initial thought was the red/green gave you an indication of how long you could attempt phase 1 to get more time for phase 2. Doing some testing i’ve found with good stealth and changing your armor to be lowest noise/conspicuous stuff trying to pickpocket someone during the day the meter appears more red and I usually have less time before they’ll “catch you”; versus trying to pickpocket someone who is drunk or asleep it’s almost solidly green up until like 15-20 seconds on the timer. However, i’ll still get a random bug or glitch where the meter is green (again i’m assuming this means they won’t catch me) and i still get caught after only 5 or 6 seconds. Maybe intentional, but I thought the color was a risk/reward mechanic to let you basically wager more time to pick their pockets vs more likely to get caught at the start.

Honestly, at low levels of lockpicking, you really need at least 12 or 15 seconds to get anything in the lowest section of phase 2 and that’s where all the good stuff is. If you’ve been having troubles I’ve also tested the item locations and it’s randomized every time, so if on one attempt you get to phase 2 and the stuff is clear at the bottom and you don’t have enough time you can just exit out and try to pickpocket again. Often times i’ve had everything shift around upwards several places making it much easier. This is mostly true for people with only 1 or 2 items to steal, if they have a whole bunch you’ll still need to figure out where the item you want to steal is located.
