Are there plans to let players start as somthing else than a blacksmiths son. im new to the forums, so please tell me if this topick has been resolved. I was thinking that it might get a bit boring if eweryone has the same origin story. Some ideas that i have, witch could be implemented, without changing the main storry too mutch would be:
A Bastard: the son of a noble, fighting so his father might notice him.
An escaped slave/thral(or historicaly eqivalent): Tries to earn money to by his freedom
Ass a side note, im not talking about the female cahracter.
The story is not changing in that regard, no. It would completely alter the intent of the story they’re creating, and it would create more work for them to come up with alternate storylines based on different origins.
Actually, there would be an alternative start.
@warhorse promised that gamers would be able to play with a female character, who in fact starts the game by helping the protagonist Henry.
So, as far as my opinion is concerned, there would be an alternative start indeed.
P.S. Female character was one of the stretch goals in Kickstarter.
@Jlyga_u_onacHa Just to make a clarification: There will be a second quest line in parallel, so you can play a female player. This is what the description says:
If we can raise 1.000.000$ we shall add a line of quests into our game where you can plays as a young woman that saves the lead character in the beginning of the game. She’s smart, courageous and good at stealth.
The point of the female character is Warhorse said something about her existing regardless, only now you can actually play a few things related to her. Unless @YuusouAmazing just spilled the beans on something secret, I didn’t read into that as anything beyond just having access to that character at the start of the game, then moving on to play as Henry only.
It is not made clear yet at which point of the game you can play as that femal char, it is just known THAT you can do this at some point of the story.
I can’t spill any beans TBH. But to my understanding it’s not a main story, therefore not available from the beginning. I would say there’s a sidequest, which includes an abduction of the main character and you play as female character to save Henry or whatever his name will be from some bandits, evil organisation or something like that. This is just my imagination, no official statement or any secret that I’m talking about, because I don’t know anything except for public accessible content.
As I understood what was revealed of the story. Whole story begins just after Henry’s home village (StĹ™Ăbrná Skalice) is burned down by Sigismund’s army. Henry’s family perishes in the attack. Henry himself is wounded. He wakes up in Rataje where the player takes control of him.
The female story line is of the millers daughter that brings unconscious Henry from Skalice to Rataje (quite a feat it is in straight line something more than 9 km and it is against the river stream, the terrain is not flat either and the river winds through the path back and forth).
This part was originally planed to be told in opening cutscene, but will be fully playable now and I think Dan or someone from Warhorse mentioned that this is a good way to make a tutorial as well.
Maybe start as a dog? Wasn’t that one of the stretch goals?
And I know how the minigames look like: As a dog you’re barking at a smith, alchemist or chef whenever he’s doing something right or wrong or has to choose some ingredient. It’s up to the AI to decide what to do.
If I’m playing a dog, I’d bark at people to feed me or give me attention…and I’d never, ever shut up.
But, then you would be very desperate, if you play a dog in the Middle Ages would
From the way it was presented, this is the opening scene. The main story begins as you wake from the unconscious state, after she has rescued you. The stretch goal was to present this part of the tale using a female protagonist.
Might have misread that, but this was my understanding of what was shown during the Kickstarter.
the female protagonist storyline isn’t alternative. her part of the story serves as an intro and tutorial.
I suppose the option to choose background is not that important actually. True, it may influence some quests (or if implemented well it could perhaps influence your gameplay slightly). But you will probably lose more than gain in terms of storytelling and immersion,. (I suppose it is much easier to implement proper NPC´s reactions to predefined PC upon whom the story of the game is firmly based - e.g. old pal, old foe, old tavern keeper who will remember you as the child who spilled his fathers beer on the way home etc. And it is probably easier to do it in a better way. Consider Planescape Torment - the game often appreaciated as the RPG with the best story - and it’s peculiar character.)
The game is supposed to be too character-centric and story-centric for multiple starting options. (A great thing as far as I am concerned…)
The female story part sidequests might probably get triggered by the interaction with that character at certain points of progress in-game. Ergo when you get up and start playing at the beginning, you would get an option to talk to her about what happened and “replay” the events of his previous too-close-an-encounter with the pillaging soldiers through her eyes as she tells Henry how she found and rescued him.
And later on you might get some cooperative mission that may involve her helping Henry… switching you into her shoes for the appropriate part of the quest.
Which could always work with even some other important characters in some other quests as well… An effective plot device to get the players familiar with things Henry may not / could not have witnessed.
that takes away from feeling like you are playing as henry. best relegate to intro/tutorial and be done with it.
people who want to play as girl/gay guy/old chinese warrior, etc can mod that to be true
Well, for all we know Henry might be able to dress up as a woman if he really wanted to.
the female bodies in this game are too small statured for that. and programming “humorous” but simultaneously realistic responses for that kind of action would be better spent on a monty python game or something of that nature
So you’d roll it as a cat?
