It’s definitely possible. Bandits and Cumans can be killed without stealing from them. That’s probably the easiest way to make money. Kill bandits. Load up on loot. Sell.
Of course while the game does not consider that stealing, perhaps you dislike killing in any form? In that case you can pick flowers, and make potions, play dice, engage in duels or tournaments, or do quests.
lel whats wrong with stealing and killing no matter how realistic people think this game is it is still a fantasy like SKYRIM BUH FUCK RAHHHHH
For one thing it makes the game ridiculously easy with how fast you can get great armour, great weapons, huge amount of money (I currently have over 23,000 Groschen).
You can make some early money by picking herbs right after waking up at the beginning of the game, then selling them to merchants in the village (Sage seems to be worth the most). You can also get a permanent +2 Vitality by picking enough poisonous herbs (Nettle is the only thing that will count in your home village); I believe you need to pick 150-200 or so of them. It’s not the most exciting way to start the game, but I figured I’d be trying to raise my herbalism eventually anyway, so it’s not a terrible idea to do it then.
Also, try to always pay attention to whether something is labeled “take” or “steal” in a looting screen, even if it doesn’t seem like it should be considered stealing to pick it up. There’s a place in the main quest where you’ll go hunting with a nobleman, and he’ll explicitly tell you to take some items from a chest if you need something to hunt with. However, taking these items will be considered stealing, and increase your “stolen items” stats and what not. The same also applies to any of the hares that you hunt, even if the button at the bottom of the screen says “take” instead of “steal.” While I understand the idea of poached meat being considered stealing, it doesn’t seem like that should apply in this particular case.
Oh and if you solve the Kunesh portion of the very first quest by beating him up, it’ll be considered stealing 1 item with 0 value when he gives you his key. So if you get picky about your character sheet stats inappropriately calling you a thief, things can get pretty annoying.
if you’re cool with poaching that is probably the easiest way. I emptied all my gear from me and my horse into my chest and rode from Rattay Mill to the woods to the southeast of Sasau, there are deer down there. 2-3 kills, i filled my horse up, filled myself up and then continued to pile on weight until I could barely move. I hopped on my horse and rode back to the mill and sold what I could, cuz it’s marked as stolen if it’s poached, to him and the rest I cooked and sold around to butchers and taverns and traders in Rattay…went from about 900groschen to arount 1700 I think, one trip, 2-3kills/arrows spent. It’s legit, but its technically not “legit” cuz it’s poaching lol
as people said, doing bandit raid missions is good money. Do the mission and raid the bandits/cumans…just save your ears until the person after Sir Robard who hands out missions, the longer you wait the more money you’ll get per ear
