Please do NOT change lock-picking or saving. Also, thank you

Dear Warhorse Studios,

Please do NOT change the lockpicking or save system.

It is refreshing to have a game in which there is actually a bit of skill required to successfully lockpick. Combined with the save system, the challenging lock-picking requires one to assess the risk of losing lockpicks with the difficulty of the lock. You cannot just constantly reload saves whenever you break a pick. In a small but important way, It helps reinforce the notion that there are consequences for your actions.

In regards to the save system, the fact that Savior Schnapps are required to save your progress(aside from sleeping and other autosaves) adds an enjoyable bit of tension to the combat. Assuming you don’t have 20 Savior Schnapps(and even if you do, you have to purchase or make them all again), you actually have to carefully plan out how you are going to do something, and again, must assess risk vs. reward, and cannot just reload your quick save from five seconds ago whenever you are killed, as you can in games like Skyrim.

It brings a great sense of accomplishment when you clear a camp of Cumans or survive a battle, knowing that if you didn’t, Father Time would have punished you accordingly. You must think if you wish to avoid his scythe. I can’t stress enough how much this adds to the tension and sense of reward. Just imagine how much less rewarding, challenging, and tense Dark Souls(or any difficult game, for that matter) would be if you could save whenever you felt like it, around every corner; the same is true here.

The little things are the big things, and, in my opinion, These two features are quite fitting, and add a lot to the gameplay in regards to risk, reward, tension, and sense of accomplishment. I believe that removing or altering them would have a detrimental effect on gameplay, and could outright remove the aforementioned tension, risk, etc. that adds so much to the game when in combat or exploring.

I also feel compelled to thank Warhorse.

I sincerely thank the Warhorse team, as I was an original Kickstarter backer, and I can say(though I am sure you already know) that the team has created a truly enjoyable game and an impressive masterpiece that has a combat system which is matched in any and all ways by no other. I could go on for some length about how everything comes together perfectly, and every little system works in tandem with one another, about the beautiful world, etc. but I will spare you the time. I have not enjoyed a game this much for some time now, so thank you a thousand times for going above and beyond, Warhorse. You guys are truly a talented group of people.

Best regards,
A satisfied customer.

It’s irritating when my game crashes and I have start the mission again so I disagree with that. And the lock pick system literally doesn’t work for me. I get the good spot and the rotation barely works.

Too late for both. Saving I agree on, I’m perfectly fine as in with 60hrs in. Lock picking is a tad difficult but I haven’t done much yet. I’ve dabbled a little and watched a video and can open easy chests with lvl 1 lock picking on Xbox one S here.

Pretty sure they announced both are being “fixed”…

The save system needs to change, lockpicking I’m fine with, but console players are the ones having a harder time with the lockpicks. I’m sure they won’t make it too easy. Perhaps reduce the shake of the tumbler to help players maintain their steadiness while trying to open the lock.

locking picking is so easy once you know how its done u have to be fast rather than take your timr (am on ps4)
for saving they only need to add an exist save

people say lock picking is hard on console i say its easy on pc am fine with the lock picking in my ps4 cmom locks are meant to be hard

Good, you get the hang of it, it’s not as hard as they make it seem :joy:

Why cant you just let other people play the game the way they want. You can play how you want . Why do you feel the need to make everyone have the same way of playing as you. Other games often have an ironman mode and you can play that if you want. We dont need a dictatorship here, we can have diversity. Were not in the warsaw pact any more . Let people be free

As long as they add toggles/alternatives I think that’s fine…I would prefer they don’t scrap and replace things though as I am enjoying the game as is.

On the console here having not much difficulty, you just have to be accurate and quick

Having difficulties exporting a clip I took of me doing it on my first try, I’ll post when I can… again my lockpicking is level 1 and I’m doing easy chests no problem. I also have 63 lock picks from slaying Cumans and bandits so I’ll boost my skill up now

Totally agree. I am on PS4 and I was having a bear of a time getting the lock picking… Now it’s a snap. You have to do it fast and precise like zeltchoron said. Also you have to push the left stick all the way out BEFORE you start to rotate it. Then just follow the arc with the left and concentrate on keeping the right stick in the right place as the left goes around. the real trick is syncing up the two movements which take some time as they are different sized arcs. Two things are worth noting here: 1 If the correlation of the two arcs are not working for you, quit back up a few paces and start again, on most locks the position will reset. 2 You can push the left stick out in any direction and when it is all the way out when ever you begin pushing it around it will start the arc. this is useful if the arcs just are not working for you or you only have a very short window of opportunity to pick the lock
Also love the handicap of not being able to save ALL the time. YES the game does crash. YES you do forget to save and die or commit a crime and have to go WAY back… But THAT is a challenge. Kind of the reason I game in the first place so… not that bothered by it. Besides what huge RPG doesn’t crash on a semi regular basis?
My one true issue is the horse controls PLEASE improve that. make a mode you go into in combat that separates the camera and movement instead of having it that way all the time… make it toggle, anything for my sanity, PLEASE.
Anyways hope this helps anyone struggling with the lock picking. Keep it real yall, peace.
