Polarms in game

I would love to be able to carry and holster an polarm anyone agree?

I agree as of now they are unusable for any length of effective game play, if you pull out a torch or bow you drop the polearm on the ground which is realistic, but bad game design. They should just put them on the players back like bows and shields so they can be a useable weapons. Also allow the player to place them in their inventory or horse inventory. It would also be nice if poleaxes and lances were added to the game. Riding around with a lance is about as knightly as it gets. If swords are balanced properly they would be useless against plate armor accept for thrusting attacks and mounted enemies were added polearms would have a role. In the opening cut scene you see knights with Sir Radzig riding with lances!

Capture

WARNING: INCOMING OPINION.

I for one would love to see polearms integrated into the game better. I mean, as it is now, they are practically useless outside of picking one up quick off a slain enemy and using it in that moment. Horse mounted combat with said polearms may never happen… I mean look at the piss poor mounted combat as it is, I just can’t see them ever patching them (polearms) into the game better and including mounted combat with them on top of that.

Don’t even get me started on crossbows… 15th century medieval RPG based on historically accurate REALISM and there isn’t a single crossbow in the game… Still enjoying the shit out of this game, a work in progress.

If anyone noticed, but Captain Bernard can train you in Polearms… so they were meant to be in.
They were probably cut due to some constraints.

If we can carry 20 swords in our magical inventory, then one 2H hammer shouldn’t be too immersion breaking.

Also need crossbows.

If you are on PC:

Yes, but it also prevents any NPCs from using any polearms.

both polearms and mounted combat was originally cut…
then pretty late in the process added in again in a limited fashion as they are now.

Crossbows was cut long ago, a simple matter of the resources needed to add them.
New animations and all that.

The same with gunpowder weapons… would have cost a lot of time and energy for something with limited use in the game.

But all of it something I hope we one day get in a proper way. (pacth, DLC or simly in KCD2)

Hopefully this will return with an additional content patch.
But there will be a major issue with that… How to enter a house with a polearm on your back :innocent:

I’m running Xbox 1 so no mods available for me

I can see crossbows being added in dlc

How polearms are currently implemented is pretty good actually. While polearms have always been the most effective melee weapons throughout pretty much every culture throughout history the big problem with them is that you can’t wear them. So they were only really used during war where they would all be piled up in the baggage train and handed out before a battle or used for town and city guards where the guards only had to stand around most of the time. But when it comes to traveling around and doing errands like what we do in game a polearm is just completely impractical whereas a sword you can wear easily and not inconvenience you in the slightest. If you’re in any doubt about this then try going about your daily business carrying a seven foot stick around and see how long you last before you throw it away.

And simply from a balance perspective the current implementation of polearms is good. The polearms in the game are more powerful than any of the swords maces or axes we have access to, as they should be. So when we encounter an NPC with one then it helps to give them a bit of an advantage, something that is definitely needed after Henry’s built up his skills and got better armour. Personally I would like to see the power difference between polearms and swords/maces/axes widened even further to add more challenge to these fights.

So no, let’s not have this imaginary polearm holstering. A far better option would be if we got handed polearms before some of the bigger fights in the game like the Robber Baron quest. This way we would get to use cool polearms more while still keeping their use to appropriate and believable situations rather than just having Henry roaming all around the place with one stuffed up his arse.

And Mrbimple, you can use polearms on horseback, simply pickup a polearm and get on your horse. Congratulations, you can now lance people for huge damage. Can’t believe you’ve never even bothered to try this but are going to sit here saying it’s impossible…

Mounted combat with a spear is actually not that bad, stabs reach pretty far, that’s why combat is tedious for the most part, it feels like you’re never close enough or Henry doesn’t even bend over to get more reach…

There’s already a ton of things u carry on u y not?

anyone notice lots of plate chest pieces will have “built in lance rest” in the item description?

I would at least allow to carry hunting spear

I have tried, when carrying a polearm and trying to mount the horse Henry simply drops it before saddling up. I’m %100 sure of this, I tried multiple times in a row. I’m on PS4 so no mod support here. Admittedly I haven’t tried recently but I don’t recall seeing anything in the patch notes regarding polearm use on horseback. I’ll have another go at it next time I come across a polearm npc (seems kinda rare, at least in my game for the PS4)

Because all the stuff we can stick in our inventory like extra swords, books, hauberks, helmets, etc, could feasibly be stuffed into a sack on your back, but that’s not the case with some big seven foot polearm.

But aside from the fact that Henry lugging a great big polearm all around the country on his errands would be horrendously impractical it would just be totally unbalanced from a gameplay perspective. As I said, polearms in game are much better than the swords and axes we can use, as they should be, so their current implementation as just pickup weapons is a good way to give you a temporary power boost. A lot of shooters do this sort of thing by having very some very powerful guns but you only get a couple of shots with them or you can’t move them, like getting on a gun turret or the BFG in Doom. But like I said, I think it would be good if the game had some more of these big fights where you would be handed a polearm to help get you through it since this would keep the issuing of polearms to more believable situations while still letting us use these cool weapons more.

Not sure what you’re doing wrong then or your game is bugged. Plenty of times I’ve gone and picked up polearms from dead bandits or from the armouries in towns and got on a horse to go and lance some bandits. And no I’m not using any polearm mods.
