Polearm glitchiness

Developed an affection for polearms esp on horseback but discontinued due to the following sub-optimal behaviours (not necessarily mutually exclusive issues, all PS4 KCD v1.03):

(1) cannot place/move/store polearms inside a building (eg Miller Peshek’s home, barn). placing (storing) against wall and in open barrels would be good enough

(2) polearms disappear after being left on the ground/floor and returned to after a number of game days/sleep saves (occurs even when placed in NPC light areas). to get more than 1 polearm to a single drop off point is hard enough but then to have them disappear is frustrating to say the least

(3) because of (1) and (2), you have to sleep holding the polearm (equipped).

(3) the cool off period for pilfered polearms seems longer than other hot items. because the other issues, i tried to keep polearm until it could be sold. after waiting a number of game days/sleep saves, gave up because it never cooled off. and travelling to vendors on other side of map had no impact.

(4) polearm and horse riding animations not completely reconciled and it causes non-resolvable issues that have to be remedied by quitting and re-loading last save. (4a) one time whilst overloaded with venison, mounted the horse but instead of ending up in the saddle, i ended up standing on top of the horse. was levitating. couldn’t get off. couldnt re-mount. was stuck. after a while, animation forced me to look straight up to sky. (4b) got in a fight with bandits. they seemed to throw me off the horse but instead of hitting the ground, ended up levitating on the plane that i was at. i could fight and take damage in the air. was even able to switch to bow and finish off the bandits but couldn’t get back on ground even though plane i was on intersected the ground (forest floor)

(5) when picking up a weapon whilst equipped with polearm, you drop the polearm. i get that one has to have 2 hands to fight with a polearm, but one should be able to grab a polearm with 1 hand whilst grabbing something else and putting it into inventory

(6) fight mechanics were good at times but seemed to lag (sometimes fatally) at other times. this behaviour is beyond the stamina hit one takes for using polearms

(7) one can pay to get trained but there appears to be no benefit. if a benefit disrupts weapon balancing, then requested training should be changed to nothing in cost, or at least a very small amount.

(8) there doesn’t appear to be a weapon slot when you display the player’s inventory.

(9) cannot verify 100% but polearm seems like it works less well when sword equipped (but not armed)

(10) villagers threaten to call the guards if you don’t put the polearm away. of course that’s not going to happen. not sure if this is intentional or not. unless holding a polearm was the modern day equivalent of walking around carrying a loaded automatic long rifle, this should be tweaked.

at least one of these is a bug (4). the others might be intentional design ‘features’.

what was missed?

I could not agree more. Instead of changing the save or lockpicking mechanics, which in my opinion work just fine, polearms should be tweaked a bit to become more useful.
The most important points for me would be adding a weapon slot for polearms (8) and making it possible to store them somewhere.

Got a reply. It appears that despawing of polearms is intentional as is the warning about carrying polearms.

It was pointed out to support that polearms from dead NPCs don’t despawn. Accordingly, bandit and Cuman polearms can litter the map. To me, it doesn’t make sense to despawn a weapon that Henry can equip and use and that doesn’t despawn when left by a dead NPC.

The warning is ok though I wouldn’t expect to hear the warning while on patrol with Nightengale.

The other bits of feedback appear under consideration.
