Problem with At Your Service, My Lady mission

Hi all.

First of all, loving this game - it’s so much better than I had expected it to be. I’m about 110 hours into it and still can’t wait to get home and get stuck into it again. Many thanks Warhorse Studios - one of the games of the year.

I’m having a problem with the At Your Service, My Lady mission though. I’ve brought the Roan back to Lady Stephanie and also had the crown made and brought that to her, but the wine / archery part appears to be bugged. Everytime I go to the Archery instructor at the range in Rattay and start the conversation about the competition, the conversation ends abruptly with him saying “Good day to you” and that’s it. I’m playing on the Xbox One, and have exited and re-loaded the game many times (about every day for the past 2 months!). I’ve tried every possible speech-tree combination but just cannot start the competition. I’ve started the normal contests against other archers (easy, normal or hard) a few times without a problem but just can’t start the competition for the wine. At one point I shot an arrow through his head, hid his body in the undregrowth and used his keys on the chest behind him but the wine’s not there, so I reloaded so he’s still alive now. I’m not sure if there are any options to buy it from him, or bribe him or anything else as I never seem to get that far. I’ve tried this conversation about 25 times now I will probably just move on and forget about the mission, but it seems a waste as I’ve already spent a number of hours working on the horse and crown parts of the mission.

Did you try to get the wine from the man in a different way?
Load another saved game and try one of these

Hi Don. Thanks for your response, but as I mentioned, I don’t see any other options - I’ve never been offered a chance to bribe the Archery Instructor or buy the wine from him, or try the thing about disappointing Lady Stephanie. I just ask about the contest, he says yes there’s a contest and it’s the best wine in the land (or something similar), then the conversation just stops, and I’m back looking at him and he says “good day to you” and that’s it. I did kill him and nick his keys, but the wine wasn’t in the chest at the Archery - I assume it’s at his home somewhere but I don’t know where that is.

To be honest I’m not going to re-load an earlier save - I’m about 50 hours past my first attempt to get the wine, and I don’t want to try to go back and throw all that extra play time away, even if I could find the relevant save file.

Have spoken to hagen before speaking to the archery master? You can always try a steal from the chest.

Well, try to steal it. Maybe it might work

Did you speak to Hagen? He’s the only person who can activate the string of conversations you need if you don’t win the archery contest. Without him, you have to win or steal prior to the contest.

Hi. Yes, I spoke to Hagen and he told me about the archery contest; accepting the archery contest to win the wine is one of the options in the speech tree when I talk to the archery instructor, but when I choose that option to ask about the contest to win it, the conversation suddenly glitches out and I’m standing looking at the archery instructor again and he just says to me “Good day to you”, and I’m out of the conversation. And that’s it. I can re-start the conversation again, and choose the option to ask about the competition to win the wine again, and it just glitches out again. It’s done it about 20 times. I’ve shut down and reloaded, tried another earlier save, left Rattay, saved, then come back and tried again, but the same thing happens every time.

Also, as mentioned, I’ve tried killing the instructor, nicked his keys to open the chest, but the wine’s not in the chest that’s behind him. Is it possible he keeps it in another chest? Maybe at his home? Obviously I’ve since reloaded where the instructor’s alive again.

Sound like a “glitch”. You need to restart the portion of the quest from where you spoke to hagen. Otherwise try just to steal the wine.

You need to steal the wine the day/night before the competition.

Thanks all. In the end I decided to just go to the archery location at night and try a few times to break into the chest there and the wine was there so I nicked it and buggered off.
