When I first got this game I did so without knowing very much about it other than it was a medieval RPG. I have to admit it took me a while to get into it - in fact it’s fair to say between having to restart due to bugs and getting killed by the weakest of enemy, that I hated first day or two with the game, to the extent that I tried to give it back to the store. They refused to take it, of course, and me being me, decided not give in to defeat (once I’d cooled off - seriously, I was raging at the game!). This time I decided not to be pushed down the main story, but instead take time to explore and develop the characters skills through the side quests and activities. Two days later and I really enjoy the game now - especially the combat, which I, little by little, got to grips with. For instance, the scouting and attack on the main bandit camp on my first attempt was a frustrating disaster, but with a well prepped character (and some devious tactics) I smashed both the sabotage / scouting mission and the attack itself. So, anyone in a similar position to what I was when I first bought the game, don’t despair - take the time to develop your character outside of the main quest line before going too far with it (just go as far as getting the horse - that helps a lot)
HOWEVER! One major bug-bear remains for me - the damned PS4 LOCKPICKING system is appalling. I wouldn’t mind, as I got pretty far into the game without requiring it (I make enough money, for instance, by looting and selling enemy gear) - but now I’ve got quests (just side quests so far) that require it and are unachievable for me. To the devs - Please, please make the PS4 controller system more user friendly or have someway of doing quests without needing this skill (perhaps adding a master thief NPC who can steal things for you, if you pay or complete tasks for him…?).
