PS4 performance after patch 1.4.3

Game still stuttering bad after the patch. Kinda frustrating. =/

I read conflicting reports on this bug. Rick says the halberds will despawn in an in-game day and Vavra says you need to load an older save. /shrug

Here’s the sub-reddit thread.

Edit: Need to expand ricks stickied reply to see the link for vavras tweet. Some Clarification from WH would be nice.

I’ve had this game from day 1 and spent a lot of time playing it. Started it on PS4 but have since upgraded to PS4 PRO. The improvement in performance was noticeable and the improvement in graphics was somewhat noticeable. However, the game still looks rather bad in many instances - especially in cities and villages. The texture quality of buildings, walls, individual items in-house (benches, chairs, mugs etc.) is disappointing. Nature elements and landscapes look much better in my opinion. Still, it’s the texture loading, pop-ins and draw distance that are the biggest issues. I mean you can simply ride into Rattay and see that half of the city is gone! NPC models are loading and appearing in front of you, often few meters away! Whole buildings are missing (walls, roofs etc.), and textures are loading as you play. If my PS4 PRO switches to rest mode and I resume the game, loads of textures (buildings, fences, items) will not load and nothing other than restarting the game will fix it. This is absolutely atrocious.

I have supported this game since launch, and have absolutely loved it in terms of gameplay, systems, story, characters, atmosphere and the overall world / historical accuracy. I have recommended it to friends in spite of only ā€œgoodā€ reviews and known bug issues. Increasingly I have been saying - ā€œwait for it to get patched before you get itā€. The reality is that the game was release just over 3 months ago and it’s still not really playable from a graphics / performance perspective. I understand it’s not all that easy because 1) WS are a new and inexperienced studio 2) KCD is their first game 3) WS are working hard on this game and patching it across platforms, fixing bugs and all sorts of issues etc. Still, the bottom line is that this game came out when it was not ready for the market. Period

For me exactly reversed  I could puke due of the vegetation textures :rage:

When you look up close at textures of plants then yes sure, they look very bad. I was talking about seeing the landscape from a distance: grass, trees. Even being in a forest looks rather nice with the light coming through, trees and plants moving in the wind etc. Buildings and items (excluding characters, clothing, armor, weapons etc. which look good), and especially interiors look bad to me.

its not all about graphics. change your thinking. this game has playability in spades. good games last forever graphics do not.

You’re confused - read my first post for context. I absolutely love this game, pretty graphics or not (I actually think the graphics look nice for the most part). What I’m not OK with is immersion-breaking performance and graphical issues. Like when you ride into town and half of its buildings are not loaded properly or when you have NPCs appearing one-by-one in front of you as you ride along, or when a cutscene finishes and a black loading screen appears for 10-15 seconds and you can already hear the game running on your speakers in the background (e.g. a combat is starting) but you can’t do anything because the game is loading. When these issues persist, they become irritating and detract from the overall, otherwise rewarding experience.

it really dont bovver me much. its not game breaking, just a very minor annoyance. more things to worry about

Then no need to contribute to the thread.
The OP has explained well and is entitled to discussion on the matter.

My guess is that the low res graphics is a reaction to many gamers having highly fragmented drives.
By making the assets simpler; the streaming systems can load them quicker.
Then we have two camps: those with low quality renditions (streaming works, mostly drive performance dependant), vs those with popup (cpu/ram)…

It might just be for WH to get a handle of where the issues they cant replicate in the labs are/why some systems do this…

My other guess is to do with the present PC issue that swapping out of game and returning to fullscreen changes all graphics settings.

If this were the case- expect the issue gone with the next patch.

Downgraded assets always bites.
It happens in lots of games.
I noticed in earlier KCD builds -vastly better draw distance/detail.
The mid distance and ā€˜circle of activity’ has been lessened (awhile ago now): only a few forum goers posted noticing it…

Everyone notices a smoother game.
Squeaky wheel gets the grease- the masses need this game working.

Once the art team know which sized assets work for everyone; building an appropriate texture set will be doable.

Time. (A quarter of a year from a tricky release isnt very long; especially when we generally compare to other games rereleases and ā€˜enhanced’ products)

When I’ve downloaded the newest patch I’ve tried to play my old save game. The stuttering was still there, even worst than before. But I’ve started a fresh new playline and all my problems gone for good. Almost at the 100 hours mark on playline 2 and not a single bug nor low frame rate. It’s a bit of Russian roulette, I have friends that can’t barely play the game, but now I can. It’s kinda weird how the same game behave so different in the same system.

Noticed a few comments along the lines of needing to get through a block of time inbgame before the slow down stopped. Took about a day (probably not fast waiting), they said it took a long time but ultimately was worth it.
Dont know how much stock Id put into it; and a great rule of thumb is always to start a new game.

I understand how people get upset at this, but, well…
(Dont buy new release RPGs if you are unwilling to restart game)(Im just the messenger).
