PS4 Pro Texture pop-up 1.2.5 (1.04)

I started playing after the hotfix 1.2.5 (1.04 ps4) and i see that the texture pop-up are slightly less but it’s still far from good. Rattay and Sassau are the worse, guess it is because these are big towns. I even saw Rattay beeing build up, all buildings started spawning one by one. Also objects, clothes, animals and sometimes NPC’s spawn right in front of you. This breaks the immersion.
I hope this will be better with the next update, i even would want to sacrifice some FPS for it. 30 fps stable with better graphics should be a option.

Definitely, I hope they fix the graphics soon.

Maybe they fix it with the 1.3 patch! I hope so…

Hey some steps to try (give feedback);
Make a backup of the game after patch, clean up playstation drive (if nothing important on it nuke it clean (initialise/format), then restore from the backup.

Texture streaming issues should be lessened and game should load quicker /higher resolution textures should stream properly.

Yes I have given this solution out a few times; until devs xan confirm and have it stickied - we need a gew testers!

Logic for solution goes thusly;
Game installs (on a new playstation this would be to clean drive space and wpuld prove to be one large 50Gb cgunk of data), patch downloads (add 20Gb more data (either this installs into existing game files, but has to download first (50+20+merge operation= rewriting key game files beyond the 70gb mark of the disc ) or it does other operations that would lead to even worse fragmentation), result is a playstation with a huge amount of fame spread out of a very large amount of disc.

When we make a backup it squeezes all game files vack together. When we restore from that backup it will fill the next largest block of free disc space.

So: if after we backup the game, we clean up the harddrive, a restore should make the game ‘optimal’.

Given all the people declaring downgrades in graphics quality after updating; bo doubt update process is fragmenting the hell out of the drive.

Once we have this isolated (tested), the devs can get onto other troubleshooting whilst improving the delivery of future patches or educating playerbase how to fix their system specific issues (consoles)

If you could do this it will help. Post result please

This doesn’t work i can tell you that i bought a brand new xbox one x for this game and i have the same issues with popin and texture loading. They deliberately downgraded to draw distance to such a low level so that they can get a stable 30 fps.

PS4 pro has 60 fps (not stable), are you sure Xbox one x has 30?

Are you 100% sure that ps4 pro has 60 ? Because reviewers like digital foundry have tested the framerate and said that it’s 30fps on both consoles xbox one x and ps4 pro (and base hardware aswell)

With such a little understanding of the elements involved- and you want to- with authority- to denounce it?

Nice one bruvva.

So, erm, your xbox didnt update itself like all other platforms with the game.

Okay. If you are on version one on your xbox one. … good for you. Whats it got to do with the solution I gave?

I understand I didnt write a solution for your chosen platform- but stop trying tonshill this off on the devs when it is a system specific (case by case) issue that some have.

We need to identify the issues at play so they can get fixed. Is there anyteason you wish to stop people from fixing there game? (Or is it just something about xboxes you wanted to add to the discussion)

Both consoles have the excact same draw distance so it can’t be a harddrive issue it’s a software issue and there is nothing on the consumer end that we can do to fix it.

Alrighty guv’na.

Clearly you are not willing to read a gew paragraphs of text- even if theyexplain how files fragmentation happens with this game when patching.
Given your understanding of texture streaming games (very hardware dependent) seems nil and all the elements at play are beyond your comprehension (or patience to read as has been established), I think you should ease off correcting people.

30fps on xbox x as it thinks it is powerful hardware and platform owners trying to sell it as 4k capable.

Even cutting edge pcs arent really 4k capable unless running console games… so sure, pacman at 4k on xbox x, but intense graphics at normal res with higher framerate (what they should be doing), or we get what microsoft give us- games that make for nice box shots. (1400 res is my understanding for KCD on xbox x- hence the low framerate)

By the way; not that anybody researches this stuff; but 85%+ of the worlds(LCD) TVs dont render 400 lines of motion. Xbox would be better at lower res and higher framerate.

Enjoy the microsft coolaid. Now can I still help the thread bearer, or are you going to continue to ‘set me straight’?

I get what you are saying, and that you obviously have an IT background or experience.
However even with extreme fragmentation the game should not produce streaming, draw distance and LOD issues to this extend.

At most the streaming issues for close objects should be delayed by a magnitude of seconds rather than sometimes close up to a minute, more or not at all.
I am a software engineer and spend most of my career in game development. Many of the games issues give me the feeling the developers did not have a lot of experience with this engine.

Admittedly Cryengine can be a b*tch to work with. Nevertheless the magnitude of fragmentation is not what causes the severity of the textures problems, but it can contribute. Even if you think about it there are many other games that rely heavily on streaming, have big patches, and never had issues to this extend.

They weren’t to this level, hadn’t all had massive patches performed on them and were all generally games sold when these systems were newer and the drives hadn’t been fully loaded already.

Iam not trying to be difficult or funny.
This is something that my solution will greatly lessen… except Icannot test it… mostly because Idon’t have this game for PS4, and also because my PS4 drive was upgraded to 7200rpm,…

but… not all systems are the same and not all systems are having issues. I am trying to work with a few people to see if we can make a difference.
This same issue,… when we look at what happens in extreme instances,… is causing buildings to not get rendered…
in front of the player…
they get right up on it…

so on SOME systems the issue is so bad that nothing is streaming correctly…

now if it is having such a hard time keeping up - something like this could exacerbate (or even be) the majority of the save file issue.

The game seems to give preferrence to trying to catch up on streaming… and just never catches up… and therefor cannot do much else… like writing save files.
Save files that get considerably larger and considerably more likely to fail to save properly as the game goes on…

I am just looking for solutions…
please… it is why forums usually exist - a community for solutions…

Ihad a day one skyrim bug.
Couldn’t play it. all night I downloaded patches and driver updates. and tried every possible thing I could think to do,… all night as I say…
three pm the next afternoon someone in a forum posts that changing the sound card bitdepth /sampling settings would fix the issue.

Shebang!¬ Icould get past the title screens and not have the main menu crash on startup.

The community helped. We are stronger combined!

System being new does not really matter, and i wager many of those systems had drives that were quite full. Knowing how small a 500gb, at that time, disk actually is when games can get up to 50+gb ;). I digress…

I absolutely support your helpfull attitude. And if it helps at least a bit, more power!
The thing is; textures are indeed at some point loaded from the HDD/SSD but from that point transfered to the memory(usually vram). At that point the disk is completely out of the picture, well mostly, and it is up to the streaming code to handle the resolutions etc. for your textures.

If the hard disk is in this scenario actually the culprit that would mean that the textures are attempted to be transfered way and way to late, and that issue lies in how the code handles this stuff.

I am not trying to devalue your input, but it would be a pity to spend a lot of time for minor workarounds that in most situations would barely have any impact. Having said that obviously many scenarios are possible and I do not know how they handle this specifically in their code base, or how much they modified the engine.

What you have described isnhow greater than 90% of games work.
Not this one… it is streaming textures in of higher quality hence what we are reading on these forums…

It all fits - I really wish I had some way to convince that for the exact reason you described, with the changeuo being the drive does go on to continue to keep-streaming-textures…

What I described is how streaming works. If this game where to handle most of its streaming entirely to the harddisk because of the quality of textures it would quickly become a laughing stock. Because that is shooting yourself in the foot; why let slow hardware handle things for which you have faster and more specialized hardware?

I described how streaming works in the broad sense, that counts for this game to. Given my profession and prior Cryengine experience I would not mind betting on it;)

Look, the impact of harddisks on streaming is real. However the severity of what happens here suggests something more is going on. The issue is present on SSD drives to, of which I am sure you know how they work.

I think if support has beenyour profession at anybpoint you would gather that manyusers have varying understandings and often describe things differently or feel that their issueis ‘similar enough to be the same’.

Based on the examples I have been seeing it isvery likely the culprit, for many, and also why pc players are vastly less effected by this issue

@Hazelnus I tought it was 60 fps because the game feels smooth sometimes.
The weird thing is when I experience low fps and open up the map with D-pad up it will go much smoother again so I tought it was a bug.

When done properly 30fps is about border for gameplay to feel smooth. So a consistent 30fps definately can feel very smooth.

I’m just going to leave this here. :smirk:

Nice finally can someone post before and after screenshots ? I am on console and the patch is not live jet.
