"Publisher Deep Silver says it’s not responsible for what was promised to backers"

This is something to be upset about.

Why be upset when it’s fake news? WarHorse has already confirmed they will be bringing this content and already have some of it in production.

Daniel Vavra said the following on Twitter about this article:

“I dont know what to even say about this. Dear @Polygon, @CharlieHall We said a year ago, that dog companion and female characters quests are gonna be delivered as free DLC for backers as well as other stuff. And that is still true. Currently we are already working on animations for the dog and tournament is partially scripted and will also be part of some future DLC. So only thing that we said is, that we are currently focusing on patches and polishing the game. We will deliver these things later, but currently we dont have any exact dates set in stone”

I don’t understand though why free only for backers. This content was supposed to be in the game. Why do people have to pay more than 50 for crippled content. Can’t blame anyone but themselves for over promising things.

No it’s really not.
Fist of all It’s Polygon. A rag tabloid, at best.

"The development is currently focusing on creating the best experience for the base game as possible for as many fans as possible,” said Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, the public relations manager at Warhorse. “There is more in development including some of the KS stretch goals, but there’s no public timeframe for release yet.

So They’re currently patching the game, and they’ll work on their stretch goals later. Indicating not ALL of them but some of them.

“Here is the list of things we would like to do with the extra money we raise,” Warhorse said in its campaign update on Jan. 24, 2014.

“Would like to do.” With the extra money raised. Also this is from four years ago. Things change in both design and development.

Reached for comment, a Deep Silver spokesperson said the company was not participating in any of the stretch goals.
“Deep Silver isn’t involved with their Kickstarter campaign as their publishing agreement came after the Kickstarter,” the representative said.

Deep Silver came on afterwards, and were not involved in the initial kickstarter campaign.

Read more than just the headlines before you get upset. You’re making mountains out of nothing.

I would guess backers get a code to get the dlc for free since they helped make the game possible and literally paid for the stretch goals. The rest of the people will need to buy it for probably $5 or something. Seems reasonable to me considering the kickstarters risked their money for the game while others did not.

Read up a bit first; then you’ll be much less upset. They will get to it and have said as much on social media. Deep Silver is NOT Warhorse. Love that I got to do the Kickstarter thing with this one, really enjoying the way it has turned out.

Who care what said DS?

Could agree with you if not those two topics: 1) backers didnt help the budget of the game. Kickstarter was to prove to publishers that the game has a demand. Thus why they didn’t ask more money than 300k. 2mils is nothing compared to 35mil in total. 2) no problems for backers to get free dlc, if the dlc content was not crippled from the main game. Kcd feels half as fuck in every aspect. I’m OK with content updates like no mans sky did and I can understand why warhorse had to rush the release. But dividing the buyers is received as more money making practices. Do you know what will happen when they announce the next installment of the kc series? Total rekt. People will remember only the bad moments and bad actions resulting in a non stop bashing of the game from the media and the braindeads and less people will buy it. After the past month people that like the game and are not biased (biased haters or biased fan boys) are losing their motives to keep alive the momentum this game got. Warhorse has a chance to make up for the mess. I can only hope that they will be truthful to the ideas and to the true (non shity part of) community.

Why would you expect the stretch goal features to be free?

this sounds like some gaming “journalist” cajoling some mid management rep who isn’t entirely in the loop for some out of context quotes to smear the game and/or the company.

I can understand Deep Silver not taking responsibility for the Kickstarter goals because the Kickstarter happened long before they were involved publishing the game. That being said, I would take Warhorse at face value in their updates they made along the way. If they don’t get things done, then there will be a very good reason why…at least to me. I feel that cutting certain things so that the rest of the game works is acceptable. They already have their fair share of bugs to contend with as it is. I think introducing a whole bunch more bugs just to have a mostly useless dog companion is a waste of time. I know that some people aren’t happy that certain features weren’t included in the final release. This is unfortunate but the game had already been delayed for a long time as it was. More delays would have been worse I think than getting the game as it is now. I have been having a ton of fun with it already and I’m nothing but excited for what will come next now that the retail release has been successful.

Deep Silver sounds like it’s finally channeling the spirit of the Exceptional Assholes aka EABorg.

Somebody had better let the executive big wigs know that KCD has been sinking fast in gamer popularity on Steam. Looks like the shiny toy feel is finally wearing off as players are returning to whatever titles they were playing before the buggy release.

Even more disturbing is KCD swan dive in Steam gamer popularity down to Rank #26. That’s right. RANK #26 BARELY 3 WEEKS AFTER RELEASE. Skyrim sat in the top 15/100 Steam games for over 4+ years. Skyrim had yet to drop from the top 20/100 when Fallout came out. And remained that way until Bethesda splintered the fan base with Skyrim SE.

So this downward KCD trend is NOT A GOOD SIGN. This places KCD just ahead of --wait for it–Wait for it----7 year old Skyrim as of today. Skyrim SE is only a few ranks just below that btw. If KCD follows below Skyrim SE in rating, then that’s an ominous sign for the game’s popularity in the future IMO.

while it doesnt cover the larger console gamer base, Steam stats does reflect a good cross section of the PC gamer base. Games that typical drop in popularity ratings that fast after release, have not fared well statistically and historically. No matter how much DLC you throw at them.

It also doesn’t help the 1.30 update on this beta release is still WIP. And fact any mod tools/DLC or other game performance enhancements are on indefinite hiatus by the dev (at least until hopefully the critical bugs are fixed). Now this breaking news by DS. Not good the way KCD is has been negatively trending on Steam IMO.

Oh well. Looks like this is the part where I need to start stocking up on tons of popcorn…

@Holt_Bathgate If WH addresses the primary complaints, the way the wind is blowing today won’t matter

Skyrim\kcd… Bethesda\ warhorse… Apples\ oranges…The sky is falling!

So many seemingly well educated people lining up to shoot the warhorse behind the ear for stumbling out of the gate.
Fo4, oblivion, skyrim, shit even mount and blade warband still have a pretty strong following. But for one reason… Their support for modders. Do you really think Skyrim would still be so popular without wet n cold, cloaks of skyrim, open cities… Give these guys some time, they’re a few weeks past release. And none of these titles, aaa or not, came out without the need for fixes.

I shot the warhorse behind the ears :roll_eyes::scream: survived :face_with_hand_over_mouth::shushing_face:

You’re right: played FO4 w PS4 mods on and off since NOV 2015 till the release of KCD. If had PC, probably be playing with rise of the commonwealth/sim
settlements instead of KCD

Hahaha. Could’ve shot Pebbles the first time she dumped me on my ass amidst a group of quarreling cumans and bandits.

Polygon… They’re prime sjw ringleaders for fucks sake. They’ll try whatever they can to harm WH and vavra. Nobody gave a fuck about their reviews so now they wanna stir new shit up. Unsurprisingly, this is about the female character… I’m sure there will be a new backlash when that gets released since the woman character won’t get to do things like Henry does(if WH doesn’t cave in to these pussies)

Here’s the analogy to what your reply sounded like: WH (the typical sophomoric undergrad student) rushed to complete their undergrad thesis, completing it on time to meet their graduation suspense. They’re understandably proud of their accomplishment, despite the fact their honors thesis is completely lacking in polish and falls short on many academic grading rubric standards. Your reply would have me believe this rushed, unfinished product is equivalent in quality to what an experienced, more knowledgeable, and resourceful Post doc grad student in the same research field could produce under pressure in the same time frame?

I respect your loyalty to WH (being a rabid TES/Fallout fan boy myself) and even more so if you were an early founder who supported WH in its infancy Kickstarter days. But welcome to the unforgiving reality of the gaming world and its ever mercurial, fickle fan base denizens. Remove those rose colored fan boy lens and look at the gritty reality.

TIME ISN’T SOMETHING WH HAS RIGHT NOW. The fan base is unforgiving like I said (especially where console gaming community is concerned). Console gamers like to beat a WORKING game in X amount of time, where X is a number close to zero. Then they MOVE ON to the next new shiny industry title. They typically lack the patience the PC community has with software development cycle from the 20+ years of modding games. The worst of the PCMR elitist gamers won’t deign to bother with a game they consider subpar in FPS and texture pop out glitches. Especially if hotfix patches did nothing to address the issues of said AAA title. And if the steam user stats can be relied upon as an indicator, the new shiny toy feel of KCD has apparently worn off. It now seems a lot of PC gamers have apparently returned to playing other titles besides KCD.

So time has NOT been on WH side since game release. Particularly given their new dev status, and cavalier attitude where chance and fate are concerned. You’re a new, unknown industry dev who possesses the temerity to roll the die and release what you know is an unfinished, UNTESTED/UN-VETTED product at a AAA tittle pricing? Did this when when you knew you lacked the necessary IT/Customer & Tech support resources to immediately address critical performance issues in your flawed product after release? Then blinked several seconds later to find your AAA title had sprained an ankle right out the gate? Well then, you’d better be damn ready to weather the No Man’s Sky PR shit storm that’s about to fall on your head. Because as that particular title has proved gimps are a non existent species in the unforgiving universe of the AAA gaming industry.
