Questions about Backing

Hi! I am new to backing etc. (only done star citizen) and this game seems perfect to fulfil the other half of my RPG cravings and I would like to back before the campaign ends however I do have a reservation about backing now:

  1. Will we seriously have to pay £300 on release to get access to all 3 acts of the game? If we do that makes it extraordinarily expensive. If the price does go down then it seems like backers got ripped off, which is slightly concerning to me. In Star Citizen, for example, it is cheaper to back, not more expensive.

Regardless I am certainly going to buy this game (at least Act 1) as it looks amazing and also thankyou in advance for tolerating my incredibly uninformed questions

Hello there. Warhorse have answered this question on the Kickstarter FAQ. Here’s a copy of the Text:

I don’t understand the concept of Acts. What is Act I, II and III? Why there is not cheaper tier offering all three Acts?

Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Act I, as it is planned, is a full scale, stand-alone game. It has 30+ hours of gameplay, complete open world map, all quests and closed story line. Most (if not all) game mechanics described above will be included: horse riding, combat, castle sieges, there will be at least one large-scale battle. Acts II & III extend the story, add new environment in separate maps, new quests, gear and weapons. They will also add new quests to the map of Act I. It will be possible to travel between maps of all Acts, some quests will require you to visit all of them.

We definitely intend to make Acts II & III and release them as soon as possible. However, our funding and schedule does not reach past first Act. We will finalize our plans for the release of Acts II & III when we get closer to the release date of Act I. For these reasons we don’t want to offer and promise them as a Kickstarter reward in their own right. We want to use them as a token of our gratitude to higher tiers backers, but you should think about it more like 100% discount offer than a guaranteed reward.

You have to look at it as the game and subsequent acts being part of the overall package.

At that KING tier they’re also giving you a copper engraving of some kind nobody below that gets. They will put your name (if I read it right) on a crucifix somewhere within the game itself. You also get the art book, the silver coin, the signed poster, shirt, dice, etc.

Should they have offered a tier that would cover JUST the three acts alone? You could make that argument. However, I’m pretty positive it won’t cost anywhere near this tier just to get the three acts themselves. That’s in large part due to the perks, which is a primary function of Kickstarter’s crowdfunding. It’s intended to give backers something significant in return, especially if they’re going to spend more on a higher tier.

Otherwise, you’d be better off going with a more basic backer level and get the later acts when they release as DLC or however they do it. Most DLC is no more than $15-20 USD anyhow (or 9-12 GBP), if that.

As it is, they’re selling the basic game for just 15 GBP, or $24 USD, as digital only with no other perks, slightly more if you want a different version. For people who don’t back anything here, I don’t know what the final retail price will end up being. It could be the generally typical 40 GBP or $60 USD for a full game or it could be less.

I don’t know if the additional acts will be treated like normal DLC or add-on expansions - if it was mentioned somewhere I already forgot the answer.

But yeah, in the end Kickstarter or Indiegogo operates on the same basic premise of giving backers who pay more a reward beyond the basic purpose of the project itself.

(Edit: ah, perfect - there’s the answer about it right above)

And just for reference Red Dead Redemption had roughly 50 hours of designed gameplay.

Ah ok thankyou! I read the FAQ on the forums, not on the kickstarter website.

I will probably be getting the baron package next week before the campaign ends then!
