Re-installed then uninstalled

I really enjoyed playing this game.
I clocked 530 hours online and another 150-200 offline and can safely say it was a joyous experience.
However, the game is plagued by bullshit and things that seem to be put in place to just annoy the player.
For instance how enemies can tackle you when you are moving and not locked onto them. Not just when you are running away from them but whenever they want so long as you are moving and not locked on.
Dogs: I get the appeal but they are just annoying in combat. They could have been done so much better, it seems like all they are there to do is bog you down so the braindead AI can hit you.
Group fights: You lock onto one guy and another runs through the two of you to get behind you and immediately starts attacking you. I wouldnt have a problem with this except its so damn derpy and distracting. Also if you start kyting around one guy then someone from behind can just tackle you because that counts as moving.
Everything feels so stat based too (with the exception of archery). Its like as soon as you reach a high a lvl you are unbeatable unless the AI does something really derpy that you cant do yourself.
Honestly, it feels like the only way you ever die in this game (or do badly at all) is by the AI getting unfair advantages and for want of a better word; cheating.

Dont get me wrong, i want the game to be hard. Of course I do. But it feels like the game is made hard by things that are totally out of your control that you can do nothing about and by things that were just poorly designed and not properly thought through.

The game is great fun though if you avoid fighting more than one person at a time and dont encounter too many bugs.

Also, you cant hit archers when they are drawing their bows anymore but you can sure as shit get hit when you are drawing your bow.
This is the kind of thing I mean. Game made hard by double standards not by well thought out and designed combat that is actually challenging on its own merits.

Strategy my friend. I think we all get ambushed by multiple bandits/cumans like this. Whenever I come across multiple opponents like that the key thing is to stay on your horse! Make sure to get the perk that horse will not buck you while engaged in combat. Then charge them and turn around to lure one of them away. Get off your horse and take him out. Sneak up behind the other pop one in the face with a bow then you’re down to just two. There are several ways to easily beat a handful of these guys. Sorry not trying to be a know it all lol just want to help

Dude i get it, i know hwo to play the game and do well but its such a damn chore because of all the bullshit
i ahve playthroughs wre all i did for hours was fight bandits. 8 at a time sometimes on hardcore.
My point is the way the game is balanced makes it less enjoyable.

here are some pics to prove im not just some noob ranting about being killed all the time.

Looks like the parlay didn’t work lol Bandits = raider, robber, criminal, kijacker, gangster ext ext
Do you expect them to fight with honor and wait their turn to fight next lol
They’re Bandits dude it’s in their nature to rush in on you like that. If you understand strategy then what’s the problem?

the problem is its not fun

tackle? is this new? never been tackled to the ground in over 1000 hours

re: dogs. haven’t played the dogs recently but they were a mixed bag in combat for me. my larger problem with them was that it would merely run away when hurt. come on? tagged by a sword or axe
Fido is going to be pushing up daisies, not running away

re: group fights. the lock on has always been distracting for me. usually i could overcome it but sometimes the magnetism (non-contact) causes you to get needlessly wrecked

archery is one of my favorite parts of this game. no perks. just increase strength, etc. which in turn enables you to upgrade your bow and perfect your craft. wish the other weapons were designed the same way.

i look at it this way. by mid level progression, i can kill over 6 NPCs by myself using horse archery and melee. i like the challenge but i don’t think it’s realistic especially when they (my enemies) are battle-tested Cumans or hard-core bandits

Was it fun in the beginning? You have a lot of hours under your belt maybe you’re getting a little burned out naturally. We need KCD2

Probably
I loved around 300-4500 hours then it just got tedious and annoying

I actually really liked having mutt but when I reached houndmaster level 13 my dog kept attacking guards everywhere rattay tomberg anywhere. So sadly I sent that trouble maker back to the miller

would addressing the issues you mentioned ‘fix’ it?

for me, making the tweaks would improve KCD. i’d play more but it wouldn’t fix it. to play KCD in perpetuity, i need to be able to do more in Pribyslavitz, and i need to have more combat variety.

the following mods would help a lot:
a Pribyslavitz tavern life mod (drinking, eating, more games, re-supply missions when things get low)
a caravan escort mod (random chance of encountering ambush)
a meet the enemy mod (you pick weapons, armor and skill level of your crew and fight randomly generated enemy crew using band of bastards final battle scene as battle location)

really cant wait for mod support, the possibilities will be endless if they release full modding tools like warband or medieval 2

Not to be nit picking but isn’t what he described what life is all about, facing challenges you have no control over. The game is not perfect, not by any stretch of the imagination, but it does try to replicate the human condition as best as any programmer can. Remember it is only a game.

You are right, life is challenging and the game does reflect this.
Like having to self medicate when things go to shit, protect yourself from villainous cunts on the road, sometimes eat shit food, put up with dumbass friends, getting lost in the woods, having your life torn apart etc.

My point is combat above all other features in the game is poorly designed and is un-enjoyable as a result. Im not saying you should be able to walk all over 8 fully armoured guys or even 1 fully armoured guy. Im just saying that the experience should be smoother, less janky and less full of AI cheats and design flaws that unintentionally fuck you over. Combat is hard because of poor design when it should be hard because it was designed well
which it isnt, at least not for 1 vs 2,3,4,5,6,7,8+

By the way, you the player can also make combat incredibly easy by exploiting the game and taking advantage of the AI’s bullshitery which proves how poor the design is.

There’s bitching, and then there’s providing constructive criticism. Suggesting changes some of WH itself enumerated as Kickstarter goals isn’t bitching

Just because the AI is bullshit, doesn’t mean it is poor design. The AI will never be as smart as a human player, so they need cheats in some way. The AI in every game will cheat in some way, it’s the only way to make it fair to the AI.
Funny how you say the AI are bullshit, but seem perfectly ok with exploiting the poor AI.

Turning one’s back against one engaged opponent to fight another opponent in the other direction is poor design. Standing straight up and putting your weapon away while another combatant is aiming a heavy bow right at you is poor design. In spite of enemy NPCs screaming out a call to arms but only a subset running out to meet the enemy (you) within pretty plain sight is isn’t good design. Magnetism combat although understandable isn’t good design. Breaking formation isn’t good design.

Love KCD but combat has plenty room for improvement

I didnt say that im ok with exploiting the AI, i simply said that you CAN
which further reveals the poor design.

What you call poor design, I call AI limitations.
All the “critisism” in this thread yet no one has posted any suggestions how to improve it. While still keeping the core elements of the combat.

You want code?
