Well i suppose everyone has a preference. But noise does work on bears majority of the time. There are very very few bear attacks in the U.S because bears are really just pussys. The most they really do is knock down trash cans moose, cougars and boars are the ones you have to worry about.
none of them i would trust a 9mm with to be fair i wouldnt even trust a 9mm on a crazed druggy .

personally id go with a .45 or maybe a .40 if you want more rounds to play with . wouldnt touch 9mm too weak in my opinion but thats a whole different debate
Depends on where you hit it there are plenty of stories of people stoping a bear with a 9 mm but i would rather use a .45 if i was going into bear country.
id personally go with a rifle anyways but down to pistols deffo has to be the .45 .

During mating season, the male deers frequently fight each other. They are quite likely to attack anything they encounter, even if they would run away for the rest of the year.
Would you really want to go hiking lugging around a high powered rifle?? I sure as hell wouldnât. A pistol you could fit nice and snug in a back pack or just on your hip. Not to mention everyone who saw you on the hike would freak out and probably call the police on you even though its legal to open carry.

i am not anti gun im anti idiots owning guns . the reason i mentioned the junkies is because of the amount of horror stories that came out of iraq of blokes unloading entire magazines of 5.56mm into the enemy before they fell because they were so fucked up on drugs they didnt even feel pain . so no i wouldnt trust a 9mm with my life and we are not talking about carrying one to the super market here we are talking about fending off bears
