So, can we expect something similar for alchemy, cooking, etc?
Can we said goodbay to one-click craft systems? : D
Are we going to have alchemy at all? Itâs not really very realistic is it? Now if the game wanted to recreate Darklands (which Iâve been waiting ages for) then you could have alchemy and religion (you pray to saints and they act as spells) as a pseudo realistic âmagicâ system, but it is a little fantasticalâŠ
By âalchemyâ I think they mean making things like poultices and herbal remedies, which did actually happen in real life (some of them even worked). Perhaps brewing up poisons as well (again, realistic - there are plenty of natural poisons). But youâre not going to get âinstant healingâ potions or anything.
I think he mean that there are not going to be basic ârealisticâ crafting system,so it need some more of work or whatever, these videos just hype me more evry time.
I can tell you that @JBN just asked me, what I think about Darklands which Iâve never heard of before. I downloaded it from GOG.com and played it a while. I think theyâre going to have some gameplay elements of this game, but most of the setting is important. At least the inspiration for KCD is in parts Darklands, certainly the setting.
Since we got a look at blacksmithing in reality Iâll comment on that. I am excited to be able to simulate this process within the game which should achieve a real sense of accomplishment when an item is successfully forged. If they put this level of detail into all the crafting vocations it will truly be wonderful.
Crafting in most Games is simply gather stock ingredients, press craft. I always liked Star Wars Galaxies. The usage of materials especially; different materials were of different qualities, so even two of the same item could have vastly different quality pending what it was made with. Resources on the map would rotate around and some of the best materials werenât always available. All items decayed with use and while you could repair to extend the itemâs life you could not do so indefinitely, which made high quality items especially valuable. Smithing in Gothic 2. If you are new to the game and donât know where to get the best equipment then crafting your own sword is a decent way of obtaining somewhat good weapon. Also, one of the ways of becoming a citizen of Khorinis (main hub city) is getting a job as a blacksmith apprentice. Then you can sell your crafted swords to your master for a nice amount of money. Again, it all goes naturally and money is usually hard to get as a new player. I know warhorse know what is doing.
There was already a nice blacksmithing minigame in 2001 with Gothic I. For what we have seen so far, KCDs minigame looks better, but not 14 years better.
Darklands is an awesome game. A bit like mount and blade, in that it has an overworld map, text based screens for some exploration/events and a â3dâ combat engine.
It also has a high middle ages realistic HRE setting, but just slightly tweaks the mix by adding in religion taken at face value (so relics/saints can cause miracles), and a very small amount of existing German fantasy of the time, so the wild hunt, kobolds etc.
I actually thought the slight kick of fantasy improved the mix. But the exciting thing about KCD is that it allows sequels to be set around Europe very easily if it is successful.
i donât think thatâs what WH is going for, but man⊠SOMEONE needs to bring Darklands back! WE have multiple XCOM remakes, an upcoming Syndicate game, Wasteland etc⊠even what is considered a promising Fallout 3 that never was (After Reset) and noone is remaking DARKLANDS! come on!

In some of the interviews Dan said alchemy is like basic chemistry. Using herbs you create some kind of medicine, for example. No potions and such.
potions are just liquids inside a capsule or bottle. itâs gained a fantasy connotation through overuse in the fantasy genre. come to think of it, kcd is literally the first realistic medieval rpg ever made ever since the beginning of videogames.
Why does everyone constantly question if Alchemy will be in the game? Doesnât anyone remember the extended trailer?
people always have these weird ideas like alchemy is fantasy. i donât know where it comes from. fantasy games?
The problem is if you donât take a fantasy approach to alchemy itâs boring. You can make a few poisions and bandages, but with realistic alchemy your medicine is practically harmful, you canât transmute base metals into gold or in fact do anything else!
Potion in the sense of magic health drink obviously.
Please, stop this nit-picking as you evidently got the gist.
And what I said was directly taken out of an interview.
