Will we be able to potentially recruit units or allies?
It would be nice if we could get some clarification on this topic. I always wanted a realistic, medieval rpg where I could have a dozen or so men at my disposal.
And if we can recruit the people we want on our site in battle, will we also be able to train them in combat? Like teaching them to fight with a sword? Of course it would be even more realistic if they change their minds if they get to scared or the other side could bride your people! And the loyal ones remember your actions and time spend for them and stay on your side maybe because you helped them with their daily business
It’s sci-fi. Why? You and only you should do quests. Not your companions. It’s about you as a blacksmither. Not about the others. And also, this recruiting feature consumes a lot of developing time for my opinion. I don’t see any problem grouping with some NPC, like be in a group, but why should I running through the game with some NPC? Doesn’t make sense. But you will have your horse etc.
Yes definitely! By recruiting I don’t mean they will follow you the whole time like in other games but what I meant is for the big battles and sieges after becoming a Lord or a war consultant or something like that with more power.
I’d definitely love to see recruiting people for an army. I want to be able to pick up some poor peasant and train him to be my knight!
That’d be awesome!
This is suppose to be more like Skyrim/Witcher than Mount and Blade. So i doubt it. In the end, our hero isn’t an noble, he can’t afford or has right to recruit someone and assembling his own army,
They somewhere said that you can hire people (for combats f.i.), they even say that you need hired people to fight bigger groups of enemies.
On the kickstarter page it says:
“You are no superhero - fighting multiple enemies at the same time is very difficult. It is often a good idea to have allies at your side (and, at times, a lot of them).”
@DEKSSAN, you’re right, in most games the hero isn’t a noble. But why can’t we be a noble in this game? There shouldn’t be a limit on what I can grow to be. If I decide to stay in a small town and make swords that’s my choice, but if I decide to become a investor in shops and make some money, why wouldn’t I be able to hire people to do the dirty work for me? I think @Welfi1988 is right on track when referring to the Kickstarter page for information.
I really hope they do have some sort of recruitment thing going in this game like in mount and blade, that would just make this game so much more epic on top of everything else.
Even lowborn can raise through the ranks if they are talented enough. Knighthood is open to all ranks, and it wasn’t unheard of for a sell-sword to be knighted in lew of payment, or for exemplary performance. Achieve knighthood and be granted lands which will by most laws entitle you to sworn swords and a personal army.
This was answered in KS update #6
The player’s character is going to have a place to stay and live, but you will not be able to buy and sell real estate. Nor you can control other characters. Companions/henchmen have their own AI and they are quest-specific. Your character will develop relationships with NPCs.
Updated the KS FAQ.
By recruiting your unit I didn’t mean that they will follow me the whole time but e able to convince them to fight with you to protect your village or fight against the other kings. If they accept then it would e awesome if you could train with them so that you and the other character gets better in fighting
If I remember correctly, in one of the videos (I think the original kickstarter one) they mentioned that the player will have to recruit soldiers for a large scale battle/siege. Bear in mind though that Warhorse said they want to keep the large battles and sieges to a minimum in-order to make them more special and not a generic repeating system that happens constantly!
It would be cool to recruit allies and I think that something along those lines will be in the game, although for the most part it will probably be 3,4,5 comrades like the guys with names in MnB instead of an entire Warband. These characters will probably only be with you for a short time (i.e.quest line) so I don’t think they will be very changeable. There might even be a part in the story where you have to raise a company for an army. I guess we’ll find out when the game is released
From kickstarter FAQ. There will be only quest-connected companions.

Yeah it would be great to be able to gather armies for big encounters. I reckon that being able to hire experienced mercenaries would also be great.
What about the reverse? What if some NPC’s were getting ready to do something and you asked to tag along. That way it doesn’t seem like you’re the only one in the world that does stuff.
I think that it will be very very problematic to hire mercenaries or even something like soldiers by yourself. Such people are expensive and you are some kind of a young men with nearly no money and no noble title which would grant you anything besides a life of a poor blacksmith.
The lords and ladies had to pay tons of money for their armies and every month of war is killing your state treasury for sure. And if you run out of money nearly every solider will go crazy and fight for themselves and starts a carrier as a robber.
The only thing I could imagine would be that after some year of military training the player character would become something like a seargent who could command at least some soldiers at battle or in a younger state some pool people in a village who are defending themselves against robbers.
