Respecing perk points

I would like to respec my perks (specifically the marathon man perk). Is there anyway to do this?

Could I do this by editing my save files? If so, how.

Thank you.

It appears there is no way to do this. Be very sure of the perks you want before you choose them. I really didn’t see the point of either Marathon man or Sprinter from the get go. There is no advantage to them. You get 20% faster but lose stamina 20% faster (or vice versa). So you can still only sprint for the same amount of distance regardless of whether you take either of them, or just stay with the default.

I’ve found MANY of the perks in this game are less than useless. There seems to be no point to most of them, to be honest. It’s a good thing the game mechanics can stand on their own merits, because there really isn’t much of a “build” to make your character all that specialized. Just do the things you want to get better at more than other things.

Apparently they’re working on a respec potion recipe for the latest major patch release that will be available in game

EDIT: I believe the patch is 1.3 for PC and is expected within the next few weeks

From Steam:

Patch 1.3 - (upcoming)

This is the patch we are currently working on. It hasn’t been released on any platform yet. It’s mainly focused on bug-fixing as we are studiously going through every player report, watching every stream we can and fixing all the bugs as fast as possible. But apart from these fixes, we are working on the following features: (Which is not guaranteed for delivery in this patch )

  • Save and Exit functionality
  • Lockpicking minigame controls improvement on controllers
  • Pickpocket minigame improvement
  • Alchemy recipe for respec potion
  • Many quest-related bug fixes

They need to work on making their perks more useful. Who designed this garbage perk system anyway? I just read the descriptions of these two perks to my non-gaming wife without saying anythings else. Her immediate response was…“why would you take either? Won’t you still run the same distance in the same amount of time overall?”

For anyone reading this thread looking for tips on what perks to get in the vitality stat. You will get 1 perk every 3 levels in stamina and an extra when you max at 20. That is 7 perks total. There are currently only 9 perks available in vitality. Don’t even waste your points on these useless ones and you can eventually get all of the other ones. I would prioritize getting both level 9 and 12 perks by level 12, then thickblooded perks at 15. the others you can pick up later (especially if you have Troubadour speech perk).

I got the sprinter perk as I figured at least I’d get to the same destination, but quicker. Also easier to chase after fleeing enemies. But the marathon perk seems useless to me.

I suppose you could be on to something, since you would run out of stamina faster, and would be at the same location faster, you would begin building stamina back up sooner as well. You should then have more up-time on the recuperating phase of running, since you only recuperate stamina when not sprinting.

I hadn’t even thought of the stamina coming into play like that. It’s seem all the more worthwhile to have picked it now but I feel sorry for anyone that wasted a perk in marathon; it seems more like a debuff than a perk.

So I hadn’t paid much attention to the maintenance skill perks, but there’s a perk that makes it so you use 20% less stamina when using boots you’ve repaired yourself.

Couples up nicely with the sprinter perk.

According to this Polygon review, this will be possible in future upcoming Update 1.3:

They just released Update 1.25 for PC on Steam around 11am EST today. Console may get this a bit later. So jury’s still out when Update 1.3 will get pushed.

edit: Sarcasm acknowledged with play of “magic” and “realistic open-world”. IMO, respec could’ve been done via more realistic means. Like visiting a priest at the parish church. Cutscene to where the Priest takes Harry’s sin confessional (and generous amount of gold). Then directs him to sleep. Hal wakes up several hours later to discover he’s a newly re-programmed man, with skill stats as blank as a newborn’s slate. LMAO

That respec could happen an indefinite number of times and is far more realistic than drinking a “magic potion”. Come on WH, use your ingenuity!

The “forgive your sins” thing would be perfect!

Seven Mile Boots perk with Sprinter go well together…

Seven Mile Boots reduces your stamina for sprinting by 20% if you repair your boots… Thus completely negating the penalty from sprinter so you have just the 20% faster run rate at default stamina decrease.

Seven Mile Boots is a level 3 perk in Maintenance so it’s easy to get.

Some perks May Seem Like they are useless, But depending in the individual playstyle they can be very useful.
